Restaurant and Business Review Database

Finally I have made a database on for us to keep track

of all the great (and not so great) businesses we discuss on line. You

can find it by going to the CeliacBayArea home and selecting “Database”.

I have already added a few of my own favorites to give you an idea of how the

table works.

The database function on is pretty rudimentary, so it

is practical rather than elegant, but I think it will serve our purpose. Before

you all start adding your favorite places, I would like to get your comments

and suggestions on the field names (limited to 10 fields) and scope of the

database (those are about the only things that can be changed). The sort

can be changed by clicking on the field name, and the database can be searched.

Since this database can only include 1,000 entries, I want

to limit it to Bay Area businesses only. If this proves useful, later I

will add databases for California (outside the Bay Area), US, and International

(we can have up to 10 databases).

One thing I had concerns about was if we should allow

multiple entries for any one business (in case someone has a different rating

or different information) or if I should allow entries to be changed by anyone,

thus allowing someone to change the rating given by the original

reviewer. My choices here are to allow edits by a) Anyone b)Group members

or c) Moderators or table owner.

Another concern was if we should have even more breakdown of

areas, such as county-by-county databases (i.e., Santa Cruz and Monterey

Counties; Santa Clara County, etc., keeping in mind that we only have 10

databases, and someday I would like to do a physician list). Do you think

we would have more than 1,000 businesses in the bay area that cater to celiacs or

is that wishful thinking?

So, let me know what you think and I will do my best to

incorporate your suggestions. Then I will open it up for everyone to add

their favorite businesses.
