Guest guest
I don't enjoy going to Starbucks, myself. I can't see that they could screw up a plain latte, but I wouldn't be willing to take the risk on anything more complicated than that, anything more likely to contain a mix of unknown composition. As I have mentioned before, their setup is ripe for cross-contamination and even a call into corporate wont prepare you for what may or may be lurking behind the counter. I hate saying that, especially since I had a serious love for good ol Starbucks, but the truth is - they have way too many drinks that contain gluten and not enough equipment to safely prepare your beverage without you experiencing a negative reaction. This is primarily true for the mixed drinks, like frappuccinos, lattes, etc. **************One site has it all. Your email accounts, your social networks, and the things you love. Guest guest
Personally I've always found Starbucks a safe and easy place to get a coffee beverage. The sugar syrups used for flavoring do not contain gluten, and I'm not sure how reliable the flour information is on the cinnamon mixture- it was passed on by someone who worked at Trader Joe's? If it came from corporate or someone who worked there I would put far more faith in it. I've had pumpkin spice lattes since they came out with them, every season, with no problems. That might not prove anything in and of itself, but the pumpkin spice latte has not ever come up on a list from corporate, either- and this often comes up on message boards. Frappucinos might be riskier business, as there are at least two varieties that contain gluten- but this makes sense as they have the most weird and suspect additives. There have also been reports that the vanilla powder is not gluten-free. However, any straight coffee drink (including lattes) should be fine, and most syrup espresso drinks should also be fine. One exception was a temporary beverage- banana something- that had gluten in one of the ingredients. The risk of ordering a latte is so slim- with so few things that could CC it- compared to a restaurant that I would a million times rather go to Starbucks- and I feel much safer there than at any restaurant. *shrug* Barefoot Coffee is also an excellent place for coffee beverages. To my knowledge (but do ask- esp. check on the mocha), none of their drinks contain gluten, their espresso and coffee is excellent, and they are not as high in calorie and sugar as the big chains because they actually use natural, unsweetened flavorings (like flavored waters etc.) -
Guest guest
Slightly dated info: Starbucks www.starbucks.com Last verified 7/3/07 1-800-23-LATTE The following information was given by a Customer Service Department representative for Starbucks via telephone. They require you to call to receive information about their gluten-free menu items, rather then email. Not GF: Any frappachino with " chips " (Java Chip or Chocolate Chip) Cafe Vanilla Frappachino and Vanilla Bean Cream Frappachino. These both contain the Vanilla Bean Powder, which is produced in an area that also produces gluten-containing items. The uncontaminated Vanilla Bean Powder would be gluten-free, according to the rep. Eggnog drinks These are only on the menu during the holiday season. They may or may not be gluten-free, depending on the local suppliers.
