Thanks for the reply, oh i wish we had a Y program. Living in rural area

with nothing for kids is frustrating, but that is my husbands choice :-(

I pay $130 per child per week ($260) - they go to the Y program (school age)

which I chose because of the day trips and the fact that the Y has a long

history of working with children with disabilities.

In Wisconsin, it is illegal to charge more for a child with disabilities -

Hello group,

Just curious to know how much do you pay for daily childcare? Now that it

is summer, I have to have someone watch the children. Do you give a flat

rate for the day, or pay hourly? Do you pay extra for your child w/DS? I

have two kids, Austin is 10 1/2 yrs. w/ DS and is 19 1/2 months.

Thank you!

I think in VA, if social services is paying the daycare under TANF or VIEW,

then they can pay a higher rate for a special needs child if that is being

requested.

's on MR Waiver and for the summer, his sister will provide personal

care for him. If he did not need home care, she would be out working

somewhere else and probably getting paid alot more, too.

I don't understand the question. Can you be a little more specific?

Hello to you all-

I am new to posting, but have been watching and reading many of your posts for a few months now. You have all been very helpful and I have learned a lot. What I really appreciate is not feeling so alone anymore. Thank you!

I am writing to get some support or ideas regarding childcare and children with food allergies. Not having gone through this with my own children, I am not fully aware of what this is like for you and what options are out there when you leave your children. It must be scary to leave your children. I used to have my own daycare home am considering opening a daycare for children with food allergies. It has shocked and saddened me to read some of the posts with the schools not only not caring if the child has food sensitivities, but outright refusing to accomodate them.

I'd love to get some info from any of you parents to find out what options you have found and if you think that a daycare specializing in this would be needed or not.

Thank you again, because of you I'm waiting for my loaf of bread to come out of the breadmaker right now! Yeah!, it is the simple things in life-

I have a similar experience, and I too have heartburn as an earlyindicator. The only thing I eat TJ's anymore is the brown ricetortillas, because they are so good. I got sick of getting sick from"shared lines".

That would be an interesting idea -- I think the interest would

probably vary depending on the parents and the severeness of the

allergy. I believe that my son who is almost 4 is gluten intolerant

(but not celiac) but it is hard to say how big of a deal this is. I

won't go into those details, but just wanted to point out that I don't

perceive the occasional exposure to gluten to him as being as bad as

for me. For us, the location of the preschool is everything -- I can't

imagine my wife or I having to travel far for drop-off/pick-up. They

are aware of food allergies at the preschool -- no nuts are allowed in

my son's class because of other kids' nut allergies, and for my son

they let us bring in special snacks for him that they keep on hand for

snack time. Everyone brings their own lunch. I think the only exposure

he probably gets at preschool is from Playdough, baking, or other

activities that involve flour -- I'm not worried about the food side

of things.

I'm sure this is all going to get much more complicated as he gets

older and enters the school system, wants to eat what his friends eat,

etc.

Anyway, hope that helps.
