Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who made suggestions about Tahoe gf offerings. We had a fantastic meal at Sunnyside on the West Shore of Tahoe, not too far below the Fanny Bridge, which was a favorite of ours before diagnosis. They don't have a gf menu per se, but they have all the gf restrictions in their computer, and most of the entrees were gf as is. Once the server puts in an order marked "gf," the chef even double checks the recipe of each item to make sure the meal is safe. And they told me about how they prevent cross contamination before I even had to ask. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, I can also put in a plug for Truckee-Tahoe Hospital in-patient food.... I ended up there with (I quote the ER doc) "the oxygen level of a Mount Everest climber in the death zone, when she gets confused and walks off a cliff." Fortunately there were no cliffs around and after two days I was home free... Anyway, the nurses and the person who brings around the menu weren't completely sure of what was available gf-wise, though they were clearly on top of making sure that my meal would be safe. But then I realized the person to talk to in the hospital is the dietician in charge. She came by on her own to let me know that the hospital has gf pancake mix and bread and lots of other gf offerings and I could order off menu... She told me I should also ask to speak with the dietician in charge during a hospital stay. Also, my ER doc happened to have a girlfriend with celiac, so he was totally on top of reassuring me that any medication they gave me was gf. I had no problems (and actually had a great night's sleep!). Didn't get out to any of our other favorite restaurants due to the hospital stay, but the Sunnyside folk told me that they knew the larger restaurants along the lake (Jake's, Garwoods) would be able to easily, happily, and safely accommodate gf. Guest guest
I had a great GF experience at Truckee-Tahoe Hospital too. My daughter and I gorged on many gf treats there that we had never tried before. Ironically that experience was much better than what I later had at Cal-Pacific hospital in San Francisco. ________________________________ From: on behalf of TrVerb@...
