Guest guest
I am not totally raw. I just don't feel that one should HAVE to take them every day. By "one" do you mean that YOU don't have to take them everyday? There are people who have digestive problems who really DO need to take them everyday. Guest guest
I believe that any time a person takes something "non-stop" that the body has a tendency to become a bit immune to it... such as the problem drs are having with antibiotics not working because they issued them like candy... While camping, I took plant enzymes at the evening meal as that was the big one (we have a group who all eats together).. I could control to a large extent my breakfasts and lunch but dinner I could only control a bit.. so I would take my enzymes during that meal only. Guest guest
So when do you know you need them? Wouldn't it be better to take them every time you eat cooked food instead of waiting for something to manifest to let you know you need them? Guest guest
Suzi - this is true to a certain extent, with certain products. But since your body can't make plant-based enzymes anyway, there is no way that the body could become immune to them by taking them in capsule form. Your body WANTS the enzymes that foods provide. Guest guest
Actually, all of our bodies work the same - and bodies need plant-based enzymes. If enzymes are not in the foods you are eating (cooked foods), then you need to supplement. It's not a question of whether or not you want to supplement, or think its necessary for you - because it IS necessary for you. Because your body works the same as every other body in the world. Guest guest
But Carol, think about it... in the beginning we didn't have "pills or capsules" .. We ate plant, fruit, veggie.... and got what we needed... if you're eating that way, why would you want to take a pill? If I'm eating fruit, etc I don't take the enzyme... papaya, pineapple, etc have what I need. I try not to take things if I don't need to and let my body do it's thing... If it needs help I will give it... but only if it needs it.... If eating things that help the digestion I don't feel the need to supplement with more... let the fruits and greens do their job. But this is me. SuziCarol <carol@...> wrote: Suzi - this is true to a certain extent, with certain products. Guest guest
Suzi - sure, as long as it is raw, you get the enzymes you need. I don't think you need to take plant-based enzymes if you eat raw stuff. But once it is cooked, there are no more plant enzymes in that food - that's when you need to supplement with plant-based enzymes - to replace what you cook out, because your body can't make plant enzymes. If the papaya and pineapple you eat is canned, then it has no more plant enzymes in it. That's why you can make jello with canned pineapple, but not fresh pineapple - the fresh pineapple has so much active enzymes that it won't allow the jello to set. Guest guest
Just be careful of the supplements you buy as they may be standardized or processed which means they are not really as potent as they profess to be... Guess it all boils down to doing the best we can for ourselves and our bodies. tempo33x <tempo33x@...> wrote: Our food supply does not contain the nutrients it once did, this was revealed back in 1936, -got to take supplements! Guest guest
Sometimes people gain weight when they go GF, for two possible reasons: 1) we may have been absorbing less of the nutrients from food, so the same amount of intake could result in more food "sticking to our ribs", so to speak. 2) I felt that when I found something nice and starchy that was GF, I was almost obligated to eat it! Some people lose weight when they go GF, some gain. Before you consider Digestive Enzymes from a Certified Digestive Health Specialist (what in the world is that, anyway!), ask your doctor her or his opinion. None of this stuff is free. You might find that your money and your energy could be better used elsewhere. H. Guest guest
Thanks! I couldn't order, it said I had to be a consultant or sign up for automatic mailings after I order.... I found one similar (plant based) that looks like it has good reviews. I guess if I get it and it doesn't pass the pudding test I'll return it! Candace Whether you think you can, or you think you can't...... you're always right. ~Henry Ford~ From: algaelady1 <carol@...>Subject: Re: Digestive Enzymeshealth Date: Saturday, October 9, 2010, 2:27 PM Hi Candace,I take plant-based enzymes, because those are the only kind that your body can't make. Any time you cook a food over 115 deg., you are killing all the enzymes in that food, so these make up for what is cooked out of your food. The capsules have 13 different enzymes that break down all types of foods, and will work in your body no matter what your pH level is. They also have organic blue green algae blended in, which supplies vitamins and minerals which the enzymes need to work, and they have fennel, ginger, and cayenne, which also helps support digestion. http://www.healthyfutures.net/bluegreensolutions/products/products/e-12.phpI would suggest not going with fruit-based or pancreatic-based, because those work in only a small pH range - so for instance, if your pH level is 7, and the fruit-based enzymes work only when the pH level is 2-3, then they probably won't work in your body. Also, Pancreatic enzymes (which are from an animal source) will work only in an alkaline pH of about 7.8 to 8.4. Almost no one is that alkaline, so they probably won't work in your body. I have done a lot of testing on enzymes products from the health food store, and most of them are garbage. I have done the "pudding test" on many different brands, and most don't work at all. Pudding test is - open a capsule and stir it into pudding. It should liquify in just a couple minutes, and if it doesn't, then it won't work inside you either.Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of that page, and click on "More information about enzymes" - very informative.Carol>> I'm looking to buy some and I know most of what is sold in stores and online is garbage. Could you guys recommend some good ones!?> > Thanks in advance!> > > Candace> Whether you think you can, or you think you can't...... you're always right. ~Henry Ford~>
