Guest guest
I am a celiac myself and work for TJ's. If there is any shared facility or production lines listed on the label I personally tend to avoid those products though I have found some like the salsa that I haven't had a problem with. If there is any chance it has been cross contaminated Trader Joe's will label it, the Apple Cider vinegar is ok as far as I know. Make sure to not trust Trader Joe's official " Gluten free " list as it's actually a " No gluten ingredients used " list, so there are many products still cross contaminated with wheat that make it onto the list. I have been trying to push through better awareness of allergies at my store. Bottom line: If it has wheat in it or could be cross contaminated it will be labeled. Guest guest
I hope your list does make it to the top and all stores are labeled. In my Trader Joe’s in Capitola (for the past few years) there are red circles (about 2” in diameter) that say “Gluten Free” and these are on posted on the shelf label of the product. I think however, they might be on products that have no gluten ingredients but share equipment with other allergens. I’ll have to take note of that the next time im in there. It’s the only Trader Joe’s I’ve ever seen that has this. There are numerous products that are 100% free of gluten and cross contamination, I have been working on compiling a detailed list and submitting it for store-wide distribution. The only problem is that people don't understand just how severe it is for us, the store manager where I work is largely unconcerned with it but I don't think he sees just how many of our customers are interested in our products being completely " Gluten Free " . I'll publish a list here when I get a full compilation of truly gluten free products. Off the top of my head, the organic jams with colored labels, some of the boxed soups and some of the cookies are good. There's a lot more but the list I have so far is for myself and I have additional allergies to oats, corn, soy and peanuts. Guest guest
My husband is a 30 year manager of Trader Joe's. Feel free, anyone, to send me a list of concerns or questions and I will make sure they are voiced to those in charge.Lynn On Jan 28, 2009, at 3:06 PM, wrote:At my store I've been pushing for all "Gluten free" labeling on theshelves to indicate that the products are truly gluten free, meaningno cross-contamination of any kind is allowed when it's labeled"Gluten free". Guest guest
In the very, very small town I live in sometimes, the grocery store has these "Gluten-Free" labels. I'm quite sure the items are mostly "No Gluten Ingredients" rather than GF. I don't want to discourage the owner by telling him this. Having the GF label is such a big improvement. I think (I may be wrong) that it's better to have "Gluten-Free" labels than nothing. Aside from the help it gives us, it's great for community recognition of CD. Does anyone know if "No Gluten Ingredients" are commercially available?
