Guest guest
Hi all, I saw a post about WF 365 brand cake mix, so I wanted to follow up since I've been in GF-cake-baking mode the past few months thanks to multiple family birthdays. I wanted to share what I found as all your posts have been helpful for me. 1) Whole Foods 365 brand white cake was very good. It seems to be the exact same (different packaging) as the Gluten-Free Pantry (made by Glutino) that is sold at Novato Hamilton Safeway. Though at Safeway it was about $2 more expensive than the 365 brand at Whole Foods. TIP: In one of the above cakes I made, I accidentally doubled the milk it called for. I put in 1 cup versus 1/2 cup, and then worried I had ruined it. It came out MUCH better: moister, and tasting like a regular cake vs. the dry GF consistency. It just takes a little longer to bake. 2) My family LOVES the Spice Cake mix found at Whole Foods and y's Market in San . I forget the brand right now, but it comes in a brown sac-like packaging. My older son is not GF, but asks for that cake for his birthday. It does really well for cupcakes (which I freeze and send with my younger son whenever they have a birthday at school) or for a sheet cake. We even added carrots to make it a carrot cake, and my totally picky son loved it. I cannot eat yeast or soy, and my son can't eat gluten, but we can ALL eat the above cakes, which is great. Happy baking, Kristy
Guest guest
Thanks for this Kristy! Can you tell us how long you cooked the WF white cake when you added the extra milk? Thank you! Guest guest
I think it was maybe 5-10 minutes more, but I just kept checking with a toothpick until it was mostly dry. It felt like forever since I thought I'd ruined it, and didn't have time to do another one before the party. Luckily it worked out nicely. We find the spice cake mix to be very moist. Hope this helps! Guest guest
That's the Namaste brand spice cake. I like Namaste mixes because they make regular sized batches/cakes/pizzas; so many GF mixes give you half a cake or just 6 brownies. That cake is also very good with pumpkin mixed in, or chocolate chips, or extra sizes, date chunks and other dried fruit... Guest guest
Thank you Maureen, that is the brand. They are very allergy-friendly as their mixes don't have many of the common allergens.
