The Orange Valencia Cake is a delicious moist citrus cake bursting with Valencia oranges and topped with crunchy almonds. Not only is it gluten-free, it is also prepared with 7 simple ingredients: Whole Eggs, Valencia Orange Pulp, Almonds, Sugar, Orange Peel, Gluten Free Baking Powder, and Orange Oil. Plus it delivers 30% of your daily value of vitamin C. Keep on the look out for it in the pastry case with a sign that says "gluten-free." Guest guest
This is such awesome news. We need more businesses adding a gluten free option. I know I will celebrate Cinco de Mayo by enjoying this cake! Thanks for sharing the information. Guest guest
If you contact Starbucks 1-800 number ahead of time, they will easily tell you what products would have gluten. There are very few- most are fine. I believe the frappucino with chocolate chips, vanilla, and the fiber powder in the vivianno contain gluten (although the latter is more of a CC issue than actual content). There is some question over the eggnog beverage they use at holiday time, but personally I think it is because they use different brands and don't know either way... Any plain beverage (coffee, latte, cappucino) should be completely safe. I drink coffee there all the time. I'm very excited to hear they will be offering a gluten-free cake. Do we know if this is just in the Bay area and other test areas, or nationwide? - > > Just be careful, I got glutened there from a drink that had a spice > mix in it - wheat was used to keep the spices from caking. > > Lyn
Guest guest
Mine was the pumpkin-spice latte. The spice mix had gluten in it. Guest guest
How did you find out that the spice mix had gluten in it? Just curious because I've had that drink many times and not had a problem- I did have a problem from a short lived banana drink they had (coffee, not the recent vivianno's) that turned out to have barley malt... my mistake for not checking on it. I've been trying to find another source saying that the mix had gluten and not finding any- some Celiacs were saying that they actually ordered a plain latte and asked for the pumpkin spice to be added (and didn't have a reaction from it.) The only other thing I can find from a casual internet search is people suspecting caramel coloring in the syrup, which is unlikely to be a culprit in the US. Starbucks has not highlighted that particular drink as containing gluten when calls have been made to them in the past, so I'm wondering if something has changed or ??? I don't know if they have it any more, but the dolce de leche flavoring also contained gluten. It may not be on the menu anymore, though. Some people also have concerns that the blenders might have CC issues so have baristas wash them more carefully before making their beverage. That being said, I'm a Starbucks girl and have had excellent success drinking at Starbucks over the years- we'll see how their cake is handled and if it turns out to be a safe option. It seems as though they are making efforts to make it safe; let's hope it is enough. - > > Mine was the pumpkin-spice latte. The spice mix had gluten in it. Guest guest
I googled it and found lots of posts all over the internet that said others had gotten sick as I did after consuming the pumpkin spice latte. Guest guest
I found some posts, just as you did, but no one actually said it was the spice mix specifically, rather they suspected the syrup- and then others said it may have been the unusually high sugar content/richness of the drink rather than the gluten. I just want to know where you got the information that the spice mix had gluten, that's all, to inform my own choices in the future. If Starbucks' corporate office said it did then I won't order it again- but since we all can have different reactions to things for different reasons (and it isn't always gluten), I like to know sources of info. For that same reason, just because it doesn't bother me doesn't mean anyone should assume it is safe- the best source of info is Starbucks, preferably corporate, or the label if possible. Of course, this one drink doesn't matter enough for all this posting, so I promise not to drag this out any more- too late, lol- but it's just that I have personally had good experiences with their beverages and do think that Celiacs can drink there safely, especially the plainer the beverage is. Really, the point is- yay, GF cake! Moving on, heheh. - > > I googled it and found lots of posts all over the internet that said others had gotten sick as I did after consuming the pumpkin spice latte. Guest guest
Just wanted to let you know, since I seem to be the caf-feind of the group, that this was driving me crazy because I've always enjoyed this drink so I contacted Starbucks. The pumpkin spice latte (with spices) is on their gluten-free list. I was concerned about the spice mix, so asked for complete listing of ingredients, which they emailed me: Pumpkin Spice Syrup (SKU #183678): Sugar, Condensed Nonfat Milk, Sweetened Condensed Nonfat Milk, tto (E160b, Colour), Natural and Artificial Flavours, Caramel Colour (E150D), Salt, Potassium Sorbate (E202, a preservative). Pumpkin Spice Topping (SKU #183929): Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg and Cloves. As I had thought, the spice topping is JUST pure spices and should be completely gluten-free, as is the drink. The vanilla powder (unrelated to this drink) does contain gluten, by the way. But, of course, if any drink bothers your system for any reason, definitely don't drink it. The pumpkin spice latte just happens to be gluten-free, as verified by Starbucks corporate office. Best wishes and happy coffee consuming (please do it for me, since I can't in my current condition, haha), > > Mine was the pumpkin-spice latte. The spice mix had gluten in it. Guest guest
I'm 27 weeks pregnant, so am trying to limit my caffeine.
