All those mixes are fine, but it is really easy to use gf all purpose

flour to make brownies - just add xantham gum to the recipe (the Bob's

Red Mill Gf all purpose flour mix has a chart telling you how much

xantham gum to use per cup of flour). You could use a gf brownie recipe

or just a regular brownie recipe, replacing the wheat flour with gf

flour & xantham gum. I did the latter and it turned out great. Even my

non-gf kids loved 'em.

Subject: [ ] Any Recommendations for Good GF Brownie Mix??

Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good GF Brownie mix (i.e.

that has good taste and texture to both GF and non-GF eaters)?

Anyone have any experience and comments re any of these brands of GF

Brownie mixes:

- Pamela's

- Trader Joe's

- Whole Foods

Is any one of these better than the others, or do you have a better

suggestion?? (if so, please provide info re make and where I can buy it

- I'm in the South Bay/Saratoga area)

Thanks!

Personally, I strongly disliked Trader Joe's brownie mix.

Pamela's brownie mix or the Gluten-Free Pantry brownie mix are good. (I haven't

tried Whole Foods' mix.) Whole Foods, Nob Hill or New Leaf may carry them.

Country Sun in Palo Alto (california ave) also has some gluten-free products.

Both mixes have gone over well with glutenoids. Amazon is another option but

requires a bulk purchase.

We really like Namaste.  Haven't tried Whole Foods, but their cake mix is excellent.  People couldn't tell it was GF.--- On Fri, 6/5/09, sherri_fraser03 <sherri_fraser03@...> wrote

Gluten Free Pantry Chocolate Truffle Brownie mix is delicious --

the best we’ve ever had, and I think it even beats regular gluten

brownies.

Second place is Whole Foods, which is also less expensive. We

like to add chocolate chips to it.

Don’t like TJ’s mix at all; tried it a couple times

and gave up.

Haven’t tried Pamela’s.

Best,

Haven't tried the others, but my wife (CS) and I (not CS but a chocolate addict) like the TJ brownies. We found them to be very moist and flavorful. HogleFreelance academic librarianInstructor, online researchEmail: jjhogle@...Web: www.blueroom.comReality ain't what you think it isArt Graphics &

I really like the Trader Joe's mix. Very moist, and I've had great comments from non gluten free diners.

I second the vote for Namaste.

The brownies are good, but for a real treat try the blondies. I made up a batch

of batch for a potluck (not celiacs) and even though I thought I hadn’t

cooked them enough (I was in a rush) they were devoured and several people

asked about them. They are even better if you add chocolate chips,

but watch out for expanding waistlines! I like Pamela’s well enough

but it’s hard to bake them properly (mine always seem underdone or

overdone or both (overdone at the edges and underdone in the middle)).

I do like Namaste reasonably well, and made the blondies for a (Celiac)

gathering:

http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/gluten-free-allergen-friendly-chocolate-mocha-brow\

nie-recipe-and-coconut-macadamia-blondie-recipe-2843.html

(two variations on the package for our members with multiple allergies including

to soy lecithin)

But.... I will say, since I CAN and do eat eggs and dairy- I find mixes that

contain them (Pamela's, Gluten-Free Pantry) superior to Namaste without those

ingredients. I only use the latter when baking for my friends with multiple

allergies. For an allergy-friendly mix, they are good, and certainly better than

Trader Joe's (IMO), but not quite as tasty as the others, if you're doing a

really critical taste test evaluating them next to each other. Just one opinion.

I have tweaked both Pamela's and GFP though, adding extra chips etc, which

probably makes a difference. The Gluten-Free Goddess also did a taste test/

comparison with different ingredients added before she developed other

allergies, so you might google it to see what she did to the mix and which she

preferred ultimately.
