Guest guest
This is a little goofy, because I'm actually the one pregnant, but we're trying to think of a venue for a baby shower and I thought the group might be able to help with ideas. Friends who might plan a shower for me are not locals, and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of a good place (teahouse, coffehouse, vineyard, cozy restaurant) in the Sunnyvale/Palo Alto area to have a baby shower that would be gluten-free friendly. Most of the guests will be used to eating gluten, so I'd rather not do somewhere like Mariposa that is entirely gluten-free. (Also Oakland/SF is a bit far.) I'd thought of Satura, but it is too small- Amici's, but a pizza restaurant doesn't quite have the ideal soft, cuddly baby shower atmosphere- and my ideas pretty much run out from there. Our apartment is pretty small and most of our friends have small apartments that wouldn't be good for a shower even if they were so inclined. I like tea houses and coffee shops personally very much- or a vineyard would be nice if they had something other than wine and could cater... Many guests will be vegetarians (but not all)- so healthy alternative type places (raw foods etc) could be ok, although not everyone would be thrilled by this... If anyone had an idea of a caterer, that could be helpful as a restaurant alternative. Suggestions? TIA! -
Guest guest
I know that SF is far, but I thought I'd throw this out: Lovejoy's Tea Room, on the south side of the city (easy access from 280/101) is willing to do gluten-free stuff. I spoke to the owner (whose name I think is Jillian) and she is open to the idea. It's more likely that they would have you bring in GF treats, but they are willing to make their sandwiches on GF bread, and they would serve everything beautifully. I had my baby shower there and they did a fabulous job. If you are interested you should just call and talk with them and see what they'd be willing to do. Congrats on your baby! Guest guest
I'm not sure how many people you're thinking would attend but here are 2 places I thought of: 1. dish dash (Mediterranean restaurant on St in downtown Sunnyvale) - they have a pretty big room that looks like it can be private (doors close) - I saw a big group there a few weeks ago. They have lots of gluten free and vegetarian options. I think I saw a group bring in their own dessert so you could probably swing bringing in a gluten free cake or something (I think when we looked at the dessert menu either there were no options, or maybe one). 2. spica coffee & tea (small coffee shop in Mtn View, on Castro) - pretty small, and I don't recall if they have many places to sit but the owner (PJ?) is so friendly and I think she'd go out of her way to make things special. She carries a bunch of gluten free things, mainly from Mariposa, makes sandwiches, etc. I'll keep thinking and post again if I come up with any other ideas. jean
Guest guest
I would call Vino Locale in downtown Palo Alto to see if they can accomodate you. They have a very quaint setting, and when the weather is right they have a great outdoor backyard patio that would be perfect for your party. Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy! http://www.vinolocale.com/location/index.htm http://www.yelp.com/biz/vino-locale-palo-alto > > This is a little goofy, because I'm actually the one pregnant, but we're trying to think of a venue for a baby shower and I thought the group might be able to help with ideas.
