Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Anyone with a chronic disease or illness should read this article. An important new article has recently appeared in Alternative Medicine Magazine. It is titled "LYME DISEASE --- The Unknown Epidemic" by DJ Fletcher and Tom Klaber. Ray , M.D., of New Haven, Connecticut, is quoted in this article as saying that many people who have Lyme "are thought to have multiple sclerosis, ALS [Lou Gehrig's disease], chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's" and other debilitating conditions. This article talks about new and accurate tests that now exist so that you can know for sure if you have Lyme disease. It is stressed that it is urgent that anyone with a chronic illness should rule out Lyme asap. Names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses of authorities quoted in the article are provided at the end of the article. I am a former chronic Lyme patient, now in total remission. I had to research this subject extensively to find the answers that I needed to get rid of the disease. Zapping was part of the solution. I would like to say that this article, IMO, is up-to-date, accurate, practical, and provides some useful information on this subject. It explains some of the mysteries of this disease. If you are wrestling with a chronic illness, I urge you to read this article asap. If you cannot download the article, let me know and I will email it to you. Guest guest
I believe that it is legal for them to bill medicaid and your insurance, BUT you must agree to it. BIG CAUTION, if you sign off on it, and you seek individual private therapy for your child, you may be out of luck, because there are often limits on the number of therapy sessions in a year, and if the school is billing for them, they will be used up first! I never sign off on this for this reason. My .02 M. A similiar situation was occurring in Braxton County, West Virginia 6-7 years ago and medicaid finally pulled the plug. I'd attach the part of IDEA that states every child is entitled to a FAPE. Maybe Kent is more familiar with the Braxton County issue than I am. That was not where we lived.>>

Guest guest
That didn't happen in my case. I called the ins co first to see if there was a cap. Then months later I sought private speech therapy for Nic outside of school. It was all approved. Guest guest
Dear I would only agree with what has been said to you - YOU did not sell HVs down the river, nor do I think that Margaret or any others at the then HVA did so. Sometimes it's only with the benefit of hindsight that we can clearly identify all the stakeholders and their agendas. I think we have to be realistic and acknowledge that the politics at work then and now are complex and bigger than our small part of the family of nursing. I hope this doesn't sound patronising - it's certainly not intended. You asked what I'm doing. I'm working for an organisation called Family Space, which is a Spurgeon's child care project. I'm currently doing some development work to set up a family support scheme. This involves recruiting, training and supervising the support workers and matching them to the families referred to the scheme. We have applied for Sure Start funding. I have been welcomed with open arms by the Sure Start team in Cheltenham, and am having a very interesting time representing Family Space on working parties looking at health and social and emotional development, hence my observations about the title HV. As for re-registration I must confess to being somewhat anxious about this. I can quite easily satisfy the study requirements but what about the practice? For safety's sake I have applied to go on the HV bank so that I can demonstrate NHS practice because otherwise I anticipate that things could get awkward given the medical/nursing focus of the NMC. Best wishes Gill Digest Number

Guest guest
Hi Gill, I share your anxiety re; registration mainenance. I contacted the NMC (and was impressed by prompt and useful reply) and was assured that for people in similar positions to me, who now work 'backstage' and still influence practice are able to meet the requirements for registration, as the clinical commitment does not have to be directly at patient/client level. I would recommend contacting their 'helpline' via their website. regards, Xena

Guest guest
I think the clinical commitment is much about being in contact and understanding as actually doing. It is not stipulated that it has to be hands on. I have not practised clinically for a nunber of years but still register and feel proud to keep up my HVregistration. You should not be any different to me or or others working in such ways Margaret RE: Digest Number 754 > Hi Gill, I share your anxiety re; registration mainenance. It was so nice. Last night after midnight I went out to check on the new mares and weanling filly that got shipped in at dawn yesterday, and heard something really frightning as I went out the back door. I stood still for a little bit and didn't hear anymore so I went on out to the lots. I stood there talking to the mares and fillies, and then boom the noise happened again but really close to the barn there, and the horses freaked and bolted and I got hit by 3 of the 4 horses and knocked into the big fence and run over. I was really lucky no real damage jsut a little sore, and all the yelling and griping I did scared off the animal that sounded like a mountain lion, Then I couldnt find my lil rat dog and called and called for him and found out that he is a ! chicken dog not a rat dog, he was up on the deck trying to open the door himself. Some great protector he is huh? Barb Kathy Brunow
