Guest guest
I was diagnosed with " mild celiac disease " via endoscopy last week. I've been on a strict gluten-free diet (cleaned kitchen top-to-bottom, bought new cooking equipment, eaten only whole foods or GF certified foods, etc.) for 9 days now, and I don't feel even slightly better. I still feel like my insides are aflame. When should I expect to feel better??

Guest guest
It takes a while…you might been intolerant to other food groups. I was really sick when I was diagnosed…and after eliminating certain food groups, figuring out how to label read and learning about cross contamination, it took me 3 years to get to a good healthy place. It’s different for everyone and varies from months to years I would guess. Hang in there…it will get better! Guest guest
It does take a while for the villi to heal, and the length and severity of illness varies for everyone. My daughter took about 3 months, with slow improvement over that time. It also takes a few months or so for the antibodies to get removed from your blood. She was much lower in 6 months and had normal readings in a year. Hang in there – you will feel better! Guest guest
Hi Jessika, Yes, it will take a while. I've heard it's not unusual for it to take 6 months before you feel normal again. For me, addition of vitamin supplements and probiotics (all g-f of course) was really important to get functioning again. I might also suggest to eat simple, low-fat and easy-to-digest foods while you are early in the recovery phase. Plain rice, boiled veggies, etc. Like they recommend when you are recovering from a stomach flu, but the G-F version. I noticed when I was recovering that I had real problems digesting fat, dairy and fiber. High-fat foods were the worst for me and dairy was a definite no-no. That all improved quite a bit as I healed. You might also look into digestive enzymes. If after all that, and your insides are still burning, you might have additional food allergies/intolerances or another GI issue. An elimination diet and a re-visit to the doc could help identify what is still bothering you. Guest guest
It was almost instant for me...certainly only a few hours. Raniolo From: ldydewinter <kgrounds@...> Subject: [ ] When will I feel better? Date: Tuesday, October 5, 2010, 2:22 PM Â Ok, I had an iron transfusion on Friday. My levels were very low, like walking dead low. It's Tuesday and I am still winded from walking up the stairs. Should I call the hemotologist? Or does it take a long time for the iron to kick in? The nurse made it sound like it would be almost instant energy!
