Guest guest
Dear Ca, No one is more dissappointed that more members couldn't make the trip out to Vegas for a national meeting. Bonnie and I worked very hard on trying to get this whole thing planned. We put the number of 15 out, and believe me I thought that very low for a group with 175 members, as a minimum. Even with that number we wouldn't qualify for discounts on rooms or for a meeting place. Hard to call it a National meeting with just a handful. We will recoup and try again for a meeting next year, and hopefully we'll get more members interested and willing to go. As members you are always free to meet up with other members. The Boston group of members have already met up for a dinner. I have met two members here in the Denver area when they were out for surgery and appointments. I know it's disappointing but when we have a National Meeting it would be better to have a greater amount of members.Bonnie and I have tried to be very clear about what we were doing, and how, and I'm sorry if you feel upset it didn't come off. This year had it's challenges for getting a good turnout, first being we have had a lot of members that are active have surgery, and are still in recovery mode, some who flat didn't want to go to Vegas, and some who have VERY busy lives, and scheduling was just plain hard for them, or they have work obligations. Maybe with more lead time, we could select a date that would work for more people. So even though it colasped for this year I'm very optimistic for a date next year. Please know that Bonnie put hours into this, and she and I have phoned back and forth, and we are just as sad as you that it didn't work out. We were the committee, and did our best, and as I said before I'm hopeful about a meeting next year. Hard to plan something for such a diverse group, and since we are a board for people needing surgery or recovering from it, we will always have members having surgery or recovering from it, and they tend to be the most active members. So any date or place chosen will have it's difficulties. Susaan [ ] Vegas Get Together Ok, I'm confused here. Why is it that 11 people who are willing to go to Las Vegas to meet 10 other fellow flatbackers CAN'T just because we have 4 less people than were required? Required for what!? It seems to me that 11 is a pretty decent number of people who wish to get the chance to meet up with others like themselves, so why is the meeting called off! And how do the other 10 people who wanted to do it feel about it? Can't 11 people who want to meet one another just DO it? Why was it 15 or nothing?? I'm very disappointed that it fell apart, if you couldn't tell. ~CA ~
Guest guest
There's no dispute here that you and Bonnie worked hard at setting this up, but I'm still not clear as to why 4 people short made a big enough difference to cancel the whole thing? Why would 11 people make such a hugs difference over 15? I think it would be wonderful to meet with 10 others like myself personally. > > Dear Ca, > > No one is more dissappointed that more members couldn't make the trip out to Vegas for a national meeting. Guest guest
, I think you were in rehab when some of the discussion was going on...the cut off of 15 people was enough people who would advance $50 to make sure no one got stuck with the tab/deposits. I would love to meet you all, however neither , Bonnie nor I are willing to underwrite the project and that was all we were asking. It was a learning proscess and I think we will do it eventually, but this October clearly is not a timeframe very many want to commit to. It is a long trip from the East Coast, but if you arrange a group there let me know...you never know who will stop in for dinner! Take Care, Cam

Guest guest
HI , CA, I feel I need to chime in here, though all I can really do is just emphasize what and Cam have already said. I, too, am very disappointed that the national gathering will not happen this fall. I suspect we'll try again for spring of 2007. Yes, it would be wonderful for 11 members to meet, but maybe we can get a lot more just by waiting till spring. If not, then we will have learned something and perhaps we will go ahead with just 11. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. I must say, too, that I was very surprised we did not have a greater positive response. In the meantime, of course, you are welcome to try to set something up on your own with as many members as you can. Personally, I could not manage two distant trips (I live on the East coast) within one year as I have family visiting and a vacation to think about, too, so I'll wait and see if we can get a National Gathering together in the spring.
