I dont think it matters what type of butter you use, sunflour butter shoudl be just fine. The birds need the fat, I believe that is the point, which is why lard would work too (but ew :-p) Anything high in fat and protein that will stick to the cone. corn syrup or other sugars I would think would be bad for the birds as its not part of their natural diet (as far as I know, except hummingbirds!)
