How to make a pinecone bird feeder without peanut butter?

Someone in our Scout troop wants to do the typical “pinecone bird feeder” as a project, but we have two highly allergic to nut kids.

Does anyone know a way to still do the project with another substance besides peanut butter?

I goggled it but did not see a easy idea besides suet? …where to get that I do not know?

Could we use sunflower butter and corn syrup? Or honey?
