Guest guest
We went to Mendocino for the weekend this past weekend and I had a great experience to share. We booked our lodging at an b & b called Alegria Inn, http://www.oceanfrontmagic.com/, and when I called to make the reservation the woman on the phone asked if I had any dietary restrictions so I told her about not being able to eat gluten. When we arrived late Friday night we were given a tour and met the owner of the b & b, Elaine, and she mentioned that she knew I was gluten free, and she seemed very knowledgeable about the topic. Well it turns out that she herself is gluten free by choice, along with her school age daughter, and so all weekend I had the most wonderful gluten free breakfasts made by her. What I liked was that instead of making me something completely different than what everyone else was eating, she just made the same thing, but gluten free. So one day for example she made me pecan cinnamon coffeecake that was gf to accompany my eggs, and the next day she made me gf orange pancakes with chicken apple sausage. The food was wonderful and my husband even commented that he couldn't taste much a difference b/t my coffeecake and his coffecake (which had gluten). The inn itself is very charming, in a great location right on Main Street in Mendocino, and has it's own walking path to the beach. It's not cheap, but then again not much in Mendocino is. I highly recommend it! ps: Also on our drive up we stopped in the town of Windsor for dinner. We stopped at a pizza place called Pizzeria DePaoil, http://www.pizzeriadepaoli.com/ , and they offered gluten free pizza, on crust made locally. It was delicious, and IMO much, much better than our own local Amici's. Worth stopping at if you are making the trek up north. -Kate
Guest guest
Sorry for the late reply, I think Michel-Schlumberger Winery has olive trees, not sure though. Would you like me to do some research for you? I just wanted to clarify that our gluten free pizza is not only local but it is housemade. We make it in my kitchen at Langley's first thing to insure no cross contimination. There is lots of flour in the pizzeria, so we use a smaller mixer with it's own bowls at Langley's. I hope you found your server knowledgeable we spend a lot of time with training. Thank you for your comments!
