Guest guest
Dear a,When we first started having problems with , this seemed to be "the" fix for a little while for my problems. DIdn't work for long. Nothing has been logical. I have never had any type of problem until we changed over. I receive multiple posts from specific people regardless of their email address - always the same ones. Then multiple posts on stopped when I deleted my old email address and started using this new one. I have checked my profiles and racked my brain to figure this out. The problem then occurred only on three other groups where I still had my old email active but set not to receive mail, so I deleted it (unsubscribed). The problem went away for a week. Now it is back, and on as well, where it wasn't before. The other night I replied to two messages just fine, and the next two came up with garbage. Now I am back to cut and paste. I don't want to back to "Digest" because it is hard for me to read, but this is getting aggravating and taking up my mailbox. I get 5 duplicates from one person, 4 from another, 3 from yet another, 2 from someone else, now I am getting 2 from - which I haven't for a month. I am really frustrated. Now I am going back to the old-fashioned "cut and paste" to respond to messages within . This problem doesn't exist outside of emails - only within. Seems like something is wrong with their "filtering." I email to a lot of people each day, and have 3 other accounts. No problems with them. I know other groups that are having problems with . One is an international game competition (a friend of ours participates in a chess competition or something like that). They went with them about the same time we changed over. At the time we started experiencing problems, this group experienced a server crash, all passwords were lost, and all scores erased. Seems they grew too fast to support their subscribers - at least that's my opinion. Love ya, Rose(Rosenote: Disregard - My original "fix" - didn't last long - Kim, I had the same problem on replying to messages only. Composing a message wasn't a problem. Discovered the solution was the setting next to the row of buttons for Reply, Reply All, and Forward at the top of your message screen. With my new email address setup, it was set to "Inline Text" in the Drop Down List box next to this row of buttons. Change the setting for how to reply to or forward messages in the Drop Down List Box (the little window) to show "As Attachment" and not to "Inline Text." Inline text when replying to a message is creating the garbage. Love ya, Rose in Texas Hi, the above message I copied & pasted. I have AOL, not . Does anyone know if my messages come thru with garbage attached & if I can or should do something like what is described above? If my messages are ok as is, please let me know. I have a friend who is somewhat puter-literate & could help me if my defaults are set incorrectly. Thanks, a !!!! Guest guest
I also receive each message as an email and I also get a little annoyed when I have no idea what the message is in response to. I appreciate one or two former messages included, so I can follow the conversation. However, some people put their response at the bottom after the reply and that confuses me. I prefer it when the most recent message is at the top; otherwise, thinking I have already read it, I will erase the former message and the reply. >From: " Sharon Green " <sharon.green18@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: Re: Digest Number 781 >Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 19:48:24 -0400 > >I receive each message as an email, and have no difficulty with the >redundancy. Guest guest
I truly hope this doesn't turn in to an issue yet again. We seriously have other things to worry about. Flatback is a serious deal and this support group is INCREDIBLE! I don't care if somebody replies in CAPS, mispells every other word, does double spacing, goes off topic, or replies however they darn well choose. The important thing is we are communicating and supporting one another. Lets not turn new members away just because isn't 'all things to everybody.' I almost left this group when I was a newbie because somebody was worrying/frettin' about how members were responding. But I'm glad I didn't because I've gotten a wealth of info from this group. Just my opinion. Guest guest
I agree w/you ! Can we just keep this simple, informative, accurate, and friendly...I may not always remember to copy the message when replying, but I certainly will try. I think it's important to remember that often many of us are in pain and/or not feeling good, and maybe that affects how we respond, or if we remember how to write " right " all the time. I hope we will keep a sense of humor, too. One of the best characteristics of this group is that fiesties can make a difficult day just a little bit easier to get through because maybe there was that one piece of info needed to take to a doctor's appointment, or someone said something that inspired someone or helped lift another's dragging spirit. I think that supportive element is what makes this list stand out. I don't mind a few rules from as long as we don't get rule-bound - couldn't remember more than a few anyway in my estrogen-deprived state....fondly, Jennie. Guest guest
Hear hear hear, I second that one! I always read the body of the mail and decide from there if it is of interest to me, I would like to reply to all the emails but after having a rather boozy weekend, I am 3 days behind, there is no way I can read all these with a hangover! Nutty PS Red wine is great for back pain! Guest guest
Jane, would not want to give you or anyone else indigestion. Jim Fullilove, LPC Replying to messages Everyone, When you reply to a Braintrainer list message by hitting the " reply " key without deleting all the messages on the list, those of us who receive the list in digest form get tons and tons of repeating messages. If you can take a minute to delete the old messages, we " digesters " would really appreciate it. Just cut off the ones that you are not replying to the content of. I read on digest and it can mean a lot of scrolling to get to the next message. Guest guest
I get my messages on and on my blackberry. Neither of these will let me delete th old message when replying to a group email (I can on other emails I get). I have set up a gmail acct and will try it there, but I wonder if there are others out there who are committing this offense not out of rudeness but because we don't know how to fix it. Guest guest
Eeeek! I didn't know such things happened, all 3 accounts of mine on P.C. delete no problem, one is @.co.uk and deletes as easily as t'others, but I like to think I'm a fairly efficient pruner most times However I usually leave a wee bit. There's nothing I hate more than opening an answer to find *not a clue* what the question was. . (UK) From: " deniselagrand@... " I get my messages on and on my blackberry. Guest guest
I use gmail to recieve the group emails.. and to get it to work for me I place my cursor after the last part of the message I want to keep and then press Ctrl + Shift and then End key together. This selects the rest of the email to the end and then I press the delete key and bingo it's gone. Guest guest
, Thanks for reminding us of the need to trim posts (including all the ad junk). Another alternative to the digest is to have your messages sent individually and have your e-mail program download into a separate folder. That way I get all the Celiac Bay Area messages in one spot so I can easily flip through them at one time without having to do lots of scrolling. I can even sort by topic if I want to read through all the messages on the same topic. I don’t know if all e-mail programs have this feature, but Outlook does. Also keep in mind that if you miss any messages or want to check on old ones, you can always do so on . Pam p.s., we’re heading off to Disney/Lego lands tomorrow. In looking for GF eateries around Legoland, I spotted a letter from PF Changs to a celiac down there who had gotten glutened. The manager apologized profusely and said she had even been to the PF Changs in Palo Alto to observe their Gluten Free procedures…I just had to laugh and imagined (the Mythbusters guy) drawling, “Well, there’s your problem right there!” That aside, the description she gave of the procedures sounded quite elaborate; makes me wonder how so many accidents happen. Is it just the turnover in staff? Maybe we should contact PF Changs and let them know that so many celiacs are having problems. It does seem discouraging when a restaurant makes such an effort to accommodate us and there are still accidents. So wish us luck on our trip: I’m being brave and planning to eat out lots more than we usually do on vacations, even though we are traveling in our motorhome.
