Guest guest
I received this email response from Cafe Gratitude this morning. It is very reassuring. Also, I did some more research into the issue of wheatgrass, and as far as I can tell, the only people saying that wheatgrass may contain gluten are people with celiac or gluten intolerance. All the sites basing their answer on science explain that wheatgrass is the young wheat plant harvested well before the stalk splits and begins to develop the grain, and the stalk, being a green vegetable, is completely chemically different than the grain and contains no gluten. You can google it yourself and look for sites associated with universities, etc., rather than celiac listservs. Tristan In a message dated 4/1/09 7:37:52 AM, info@... writes: The only wheat that we have in our cafes are our bottled wheat beer, and at our San cafe we have sprouted wheat tortillas on the weekends. Wheatgrass does not contain any wheat. We use wheat-free tamari and make our own flour of of the meal from our soaked nuts.
