Guest guest
Esteban in Monterey is a disappointment. Sure, we need more G-friendly restaurants, but we went there Monday and will not go back again. Why? We had three dishes:1. Paella for 2 - $24 - We ordered it ahead of time (it takes 30 minutes to prepare), so it was ready shortly after we arrived. It had a reasonable amount of mussels and clams, but only 4 (four) prawns, a little chorizo, and very little Spanish rice, and watery at that, not like traditional paella. The flavor, though, was good.2. Fresh anchovy with a lemon-parsley "persiade." - $7 - Four tiny anchovies and a teaspoon of a little mixture of ??? Definitely a total waste of money.3. Delta asparagus with garlic aioli and lemon relish - $7 - Half a dozen large grilled asparagus with a little sauce. This was quite good and maybe worth the price of the dish.Overall, though, based on our experience, Esteban is overpriced for what you get, and the flavors were not exemplary.
