Guest guest
One thing to emphasize: I often see packages of "buckwheat noodles". These generally list wheat as the main ingredient! Once, I found a package that contained only buckwheat, according to the ingredients list -- but that was such a rarity that I feared it might be a mistake or be CCd. Tamari labelled "wheat free" MAY be gluten-free, but read the label. Some wheat-free tamaris are made with barley instead of wheat -- and that's not for us, of course. San-J Wheat-Free Tamari is GF. Keep in mind that they make a wheat-based tamari, as well. Harper**************Dell Mini Netbooks: Great deals starting at $299 after instant savings! Guest guest
Yes, almost all buckwheat noodles are made with wheat too (it’s never safe to get the buckwheat noodle soups out at Asian restaurants...i made that mistake within the first year I was diagnosed.) There is a brand out there that is a hard find and I cant remember what it is that’s just made with buckwheat. I never bought it b/c I wasn’t sure of the cross contamination. It was at a random store on a vacation or something. I only use the San-J WFT…didn’t know the other brands had barely in it…I would of course read the label if I ever came across a new brand…I just haven’t yet. -aw From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of flatcat9@... Guest guest
I think it is the Eden brand of buckwheat noodles that are 100% buckwheat. I have had them and I was fine. I think part of the package is yellow. Make sure to check carefully. I have only found them at one health food store near me. Guest guest
Real Foods in San Francisco carries (or did) a "wheat-free tamari" made entirely from barley. On the other side of the coin, they also carry a really nice wheat-free tamari other than San-J. The name is Japanese, and I can't remember it. However, it's made from just soybeans, salt, and water, brewed in the traditional tamari fashion. I like the taste of San-J and of this one; they're just a little different from each other. I'm in an extremely small town north of San Francisco now (Gualala); I saw the Japanese-named soy sauce in the grocery store here this week, so it can't be too obscure! H. Guest guest
San-J is the tamari brand I use. And it works great and tastes good, too.
