Guest guest
where do you get the gluten detectable tests?? I need to test my meds too! Despite extreme caution on my part, my IGG/IGA blood tests still detect gluten antibodies (I've been gluten-free for nearly 4 months now), so I wanted to test a few things that I eat/swallow on a daily basis. One of the things I tested was the only medication I take on a daily basis. When I was first diagnosed with CD, I called the manufacturer, who informed me the product was GF. (However, the Clan database has this statement from the manufacturer: No gluten is added to this product but company cannot guarantee the absence of trace amounts in the raw materials). The EZ Gluten test came back positive - twice. I'm wondering what my next step should be? Should I perhaps have a sample sent to a lab to verify? Anyone have any lab suggestions? I'm not sure how seriously to take the results of a home test, but obviously this is an unsettling development.
Guest guest
Hi – I have heard these home tests are not highly reliable, but I don’t have data on that. Does the company provide data on sensitivity and specificity (i.e. rate of false positives and false negatives)? BTW, it can take a year or so for the antibody level to subside to normal even if your diet is perfect – 4 months is not long enough to worry about. Guest guest
This is one of my pet peeves, which I have posted before about. Drug companies buy their fillers from vendors, and they can't (won't) make sure that those vendors provide gluten-free products. They are only interested in the low bid, especially if it is a generic drug manufacturer. This happened when my son was on a new med. He got sick. I called the company and they said "we don't know" because they use a vendor. I called another company, and they said, "the batch that is out now is GF, but we can't guarantee the next one will be, so you have to keep checking". This means that your getting pot luck, depending on what your pharmacy has on the shelf. The FDA requires food to be labeled, why can't they require the same for drugs? Recently, I ordered a few EZ Gluten home tests. Despite extreme caution on my part, my IGG/IGA blood tests still detect gluten antibodies (I've been gluten-free for nearly 4 months now), so I wanted to test a few things that I eat/swallow on a daily basis.
