Guest guest
Geri, Very interesting. I don't receive either of those mags. I searched through both Newsweek and Times' websites, including their archives - no luck. Before I would feel comfortable expressing my opinion, I have to know exactly what the article says. I'm reminded of an incident in MS or AL, a couple of years ago. A death row inmate wanted to donate all his organs. Regardless of the method of execution, the organs would be destroyed, the prison wouldn't even allow him to donate a kidney. As a result the prisoner wound up in (I believe) the state supreme court, and a judge ordered that he may donate all his organs before execution. There was one problem, the harvesting of his organs would result in his death. There wasn't a single transplant surgeon in the country that would perform the harvesting, because of their hippocratic oath. I asked one of the surgeons about it. To paraphrase, he said that in order for transplants to continue to be a viable option, the process must be totally immaculate and held to the highest moral standards. Believe me, payment for organs is probably right behind killing people for organs on the list of no-nos' But, I find that nothing surprises me anymore, no matter how bizarre it may seem, that's why I'd love to get my hands on that article. Geri, if you locate it, could you scan it and send it to me as an attachment?
