Guest guest
Thanks Barbara Ann, That is interesting. I would be curious to know if anyone else knows anything about this. Tami
Guest guest
Tami, I said previously that the dentist checked my fillings for mercury years ago, and I didn't have any which were mercury. But, as I was reading the abstract about the mercury and saliva, I remembered that as a child (100 years ago) I was fascinated watching my old dentist mix up the mercury fillings. He would stir it around in a mortar and pestal (sp) then use what looked like a teeny tiny ice cream scooper to place it in the tooth. So, I did have them at one point. I suspect that I knocked them out over time, because I was constantly chewing bubble gum. What I find so interesting is that my present dentist either knew or had his suspicions about mercury around 1992 or 1993, yet it appears that the information wasn't released until 1997 (if I read it correctly) Thanks for the info, --- Barbara Ann AIH transplant recipient On Wed, 12 May 1999 23:03:18 Chollyfam wrote: >From: Chollyfam@... > > I dug this up. Guest guest
Geri, They still continue to use mercury fillings. Can you believe it? Tami
Guest guest
Tami, Thanks for the links to HugNet. I'm going to bring the article with me when I see my dentist - and I'll make an appointment soon. It was especially interesting since my son died from ALS and that's one of the diseases they profile. It's the first time I've read that ALS has officially been designated as an autoimmune disease. I don't know if our son had mercury fillings. Do you know when they stopped using them? I do know, however, that ALS is often genetically contracted. I sat in at an ALS support group meeting and the 17 year old daughter of an ALS patient has just learned that she had inherited the gene. ALS, incidentally, is a disease that primarily strikes men, not women, which somewhat rules out hormones as a cause. But, it doesn't rule out fetal cell cause, inherited through me. I didn't want to have to suspect that I might have passed something onto our son that caused his death and in fact, I don't know that I'm going to mention this to our other children yet. Genetic diseases aren't inevitable, luckily. Take care, Geri
Guest guest
Tami, I'm glad you told us about mercury fillings. I'm trying to remember to check to see if I have any metal fillings at all. I have very strong teeth and haven't had a filling for many years, but I wouldn't be surprised if I have at least one. Got to see my dentist! Take care, Geri
