Hi Marci, When you look on the Yosemite Reservations website (http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations.aspx),there is this blurb:

“We try to eat at the Mountain Room everytime we visit Yosemite. My son has Celiac Disease and in the past The Mountain Room has always been very accommodating. This time when I asked if a particular item was gluten-free, they presented a gluten-free menu. IN THE MIDDLE OF YOSEMITE!!! I can't tell you how great that is. It can be so difficult for my son to have a nice meal like everyone else, and there were a ton of delicious options on your gluten-free menu. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

~Sidona R., Valley Center, CA

I don't know if that means all the restaurants in Yosemite offer gluten free options, but I am hopeful! I would also love to hear from others about their experience in Yosemite, particularly in Curry Village.

Thanks,

Tristan

experience eating there--either at restaurants, or in finding

accommodations with kitchens.

Thanks for your insights!

I've had great experiences at Yosemite. All the table service restaurants are quite knowledgeable, just ask to speak with the manager when you check in and tell them you have dietary restrictions. Also last time I stayed at Tenaya Lodge just outside the south entrance, the restaurant there was serving gluten-free pasta during the dinner service.-- Joe (from iPhone)http://www.sanbeiji.comOn Dec 1, 2009, at 4:51 PM, TrVerb@... wrote:

I saw that blurb too. I'm also interested in Curry Village, since I'm not sure we're going to be making it to the finer restaurants. Thanks everyone for your ideas so far.MarciFrom: TrVerb@... <TrVerb@...>Subject: Re: [ ] Yosemite Date: Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 4:51 PM

I dunno about Curry Village, they don't seem to have much GF friendly, but you can take the free shuttle the cafeteria at the lodge. They are reasonably priced and usually helpful for GF stuff. They fry their fries in their own fryer, they are some of the only fries I ever get to eat! Also the people at the full meal line will make you whatever to special order with no breading or whatnot- if you ask one person and they are clearly a total moron, just ask someone else. I usually have gotten help from the first person I talked to, often even had the cook come out, but last time I went, I had to deal with a jerky moron who had attitude, but then I found someone nice who actually knew what he was talking about and went and checked ingredient lists for me (first guy said "the lentil soup probably doesn't have what, it shouldn't, I don't have time to check and there is really no place to check" or something like that, second guy said "I'm pretty sure the lentil soup doesn't have any gluten, but I will go back to the kitchen and double check for you", then proceeded to do so.Curry Village I hear has a buffet style thing, so I usually avoid that kind of thing, it also has things like pizza and maybe hotdogs, not GF friendly, but I haven't really checked it out all that much. Also the grocery stores in Yosemite are pretty well stocked in general and not too outrageously expensive. Hope things work out, I LOVE Yosemite and spend lots of time out there climbing!Cory From: mriseman@...Date: Tue, 1 Dec 2009 22:11:17 -0800Subject: Re: [ ] Yosemite

Oh, another thought, I don't know what kind of style you are looking to stay in, we usually just camp and I generally bring non-cooking things like rice cakes and almond butter (which, really, I could live off of for like a week!) but the Yosemite bug offers various accommodations for various group sizes and I have had great luck with their kitchen staff as well (that was like four years ago though). They also have their own hostel kitchen that I believe can be used by anyone staying on the grounds, def bring your own cookware for that though. I also might be able to give you a few tips for places to eat along the way when you figure out where you will stay and what route you will travel.Cory From: mriseman@...Date: Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:25:08 -0800Subject: [ ] Yosemite

Thanks, Cory. We will probably be staying in the Curry Village tent cabins. What is the Yosemite bug? We will be driving from San Francisco--I assume we'll go out 580. If you have any ideas for places to stop, please let me know!MarciOn Dec 1, 2009, at 11:10 PM, cory katt wrote:Oh, another thought, I don't know what kind of style you are looking to stay in, we usually just camp and I generally bring non-cooking things like rice cakes and almond butter (which, really, I could live off of for like a week!) but the Yosemite bug offers various accommodations for various group sizes and I have had great luck with their kitchen staff as well (that was like four years ago though). Marci,

We just went to Yosemite over Thanksgiving and had a great time. We were able

to find GF food pretty easily. We stayed in the Yosemite Lodge and had a fridge

in our room. We bought milk and had cereal in the room for breakfast to save

money. I just brought my daughter's GF cereal and she was happy.

We ate at the Mountain Room for dinner one night and had a wonderful meal. They

brought out the GF menu which included some good selections. My daughter was

able to choose steak, baked potato and creme brulee dessert. The staff was very

helpful and understood the contamination issues.

Right now there aren't a lot of eating options at Curry Village since it is off

season. Usually there is a pizza place and another restaurant open. We did

find ourselves there one day around lunch and were able to get food at a small

store. They had GF Rice Noodle bowls, chips, fruit, etc. and we were able to

use their microwave and hot water.

There is also a small store/Degnans Deli in Yosemite Village where we had

another lunch - rice bowl again, salad, fruit, and hard boiled egg.

We did eat at the Food Court near Yosemite Lodge but just picked items off the

shelf and didn't request ingredients or special orders. It sounds like from the

previous posts they would be willing to work with you. I hope this helps!

Hi Marci,

The Yosemite bug is a hostel in midpines I think, you can google it for the website. There is a mexican restaurant we like in oakdale, but I can't remember the name and haven't found it searching yet, but I know its in the same complex as a rite aid and a cold stone's, so I will keep looking!
