Guest guest
Hi Judy, Welcome to the group. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, it's a reminder that there are not always successful treatments for this disease. I hope that your condition turns out to be nothing more than a treatable gall bladder condition. One thing that concerns and surprises me is that you had to tell the doctor about your mom's condition. When I went to the doctor for elevated liver enzymes, I was questioned very thoroughly about diseases and specifically liver diseases in my family. Another concern is the fact that it was a tech who discovered the fluid in your abdomen and not the doctor. If your doctor isn't experienced with AIH I would be concerned that you might not be able to get a diagnosis for a very long time. I'm a little sensitive to this issue because, for me, time was my enemy. I was in denial because I had absolutely no symptoms until 11 weeks before I had to have a transplant. I hope you are able to find a qualified specialist and get some answers. If you need to find a good liver specialist you can check the American Liver Foundation's website.
