Guest guest
Hallie and I visited the Draeger's gluten free event in San Mateo on Sunday September 20. It was well attended. Dreaeger's market did a nice job of showcasing the food manufacturers, and they had the space in San Mateo to do that. Tasting stations were spread out throughout the store and upstairs in the private dining room, so no one area was crowded. There was also a lecture in the classroom given by a Sunnyvale Chiropractor/ Certified Clinical Nutritionist group. We did not attend this nor the demo by Majorca. We did notice a large collection of gluten free cookbooks that can be purchased in the upstairs book shop. Maybe one of the best features of the event was that the sampling gave us the ability to see what we liked and did not like at very low risk. Good thing because the products are expensive. Draeger's market has a nice selection of gluten free convenience foods. For the demo we saw lots of packaged cookies and toasts, cakes, cookie and bread mixes, some main courses, and some fresh (frozen) cakes. Of course there were hundreds of items that are naturally gluten free. Many of these, but not all, have gluten free shelf tags. There is also an island of gluten free standard fare - Enger-g, Pamela's, Glutino, 123 Gluten Free, 's crackers, etc. We're glad we went, and if you live in San Mateo you can go to both Draegers and Whole Foods. This is the first Draeger's gluten free event we have been to. In terms of conclusions, the jury is still out. Vic Dolcourt
