I'm hastily writing these steps - hopefully this will help get you in the right direction. If you need more help don't hesitate to ask though! 1. Log in to Google (you need a Google account to be able to collaborate) 2. Follow the link to the Gluten-Free Google Map. 3. Click on the Save to My Maps link 4. Now you can search for a restaurant - i.e. Mariposa Bakery. A location pin should show up for Oakland. (Maybe even a new one for the Ferry Building?) 5. Click on a pin to bring up the info box. If this is the correct spot, click Save to My Maps link. It will ask you which map you want to save the location to - choose Gluten-Free Bay Area and hit OK. 6. Optionally you can edit the entry, such as " Has a dedicated gluten-free menu " . Once you have the map itself saved and you are a collaborator, the workflow is pretty simple. Just takes a little practice. > Are there some kind of standardized guidelines for indicating the restaurant's level of awareness regarding cross-contamination? (I know this is a tough one since everyone has their own personal standard.) Nothing really specific, but I always try to put in a few notes in the entry so the user knows what to expect. > What does the statement " Open Collaboration " on the map indicate for users? That means anyone can log in and add or edit map entries. Everyone is pretty much welcome to work on this! As I mentioned before, let me know if you need help. I am largely poking around myself, but I've put a lot of entries in there so I sort of know what I'm doing... ;-) Cheers, Joe -- Joe http://sanbeiji.com/
Guest guest
Thank you for posting the instructions so quickly, Joe. I haven't been successful in working this out yet, partly because I can't seem to access the map itself any more since this afternoon - the map shows up, but without gluten-free data. Is anyone else having this problem? Also, when you say " Follow the link to the Gluten-Free Google Map, " what page have I started on, and logged in on, that would show that link? I think I need the " Dummies " version of the instructions. Any further guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time! > > > > How does one submit restaurants for the Gluten-Free Google Map  ? > > I'm hastily writing these steps - hopefully this will help get you in > the right direction. Guest guest
Hi Joe, I'm not having any success with this and could use your further help. I'm still not seeing the map data come back, even though I've repeatedly deleted the map from " My Maps " per your instructions to this group back in Aug. 2008. It just reappears in " My Maps. " Any ideas? I " d still like to figure out how to add restaurants, but first I need to be able to access the map. Many thanks, Iscol > > > > How does one submit restaurants for the Gluten-Free Google Map ? > > I'm hastily writing these steps - hopefully this will help get you in > the right direction.
