Guest guest
Hi Kate Sorry to hear your in so much pain. You are in the right place. Cam and and Bonnie have helped many find the right place to go to find a qualified doctor and their info that you may need is second to none. I want to tell you I'm so sorry to hear of all you'll been through with your pancreatectomy, abscess and kidney removal. You must have been in severe pain and it sounds like you still have some pain. I know this question is not scolio related but I just have to ask. My husband is going through tests right now of his abdomen and we are deathly afraid he might have pancreas cancer since it runs in his family. He has lost 60 lbs., has constant diarrhea and they can't seem to find what's wrong. My question is am I right in thinking a pancreatectomy is removal of all or part of the pancreas? We are under the impression that they can't remove the pancreas. Hope your recovery from all this is complete and the pain leaves so you can concentrate on your back problems. Best wishes, Elaine
Guest guest
Dear Elaine, I am so sorry for what your husband is going through. There is a wonderful doctor named Sutherland at U of Mn. who has been doing pancreatectomy's with auto islet transplants since, I think, 1977. He injects the islets into a vein to the liver where they produce insulin. He has trained everyone else who does this procedure. There is someone very good at U of Cincinnati and more places are beginning to do this - for instance, Hopkins is building a lab so they can start doing the procedure. I went to Sutherland though I live in NC as he is so brilliant. He answers emails if you want to ask him questions dsuther@.... I really hope your husband can get some help. Pancreatitis is a horrible disease and pancreatic cancer is even much worse. Will keep you in my thoughts, Kate From: badback48 Sent: Saturday, August 07, 2010 10:31 AM Subject: [ ] Re: To Kate Hi KateSorry to hear your in so much pain. You are in the right place.
