Guest guest
The nurse in my school give me an article from School Health Alert about a possible cause of AIH. Children's Hospital in Boston announced that several patients qho have received Minocycline (a modified tetracycline) for acne and have taken it for 12 months have been diagnosed with AIH. (Cited by Sydney Gellis in Pediatric Notes, Vol. 23, p.4, l999. Still think it was my daughter's overperscribing of antibiotics and probably her predisposition and who knows what else that caused her AIH. Hang in there Sue. I was seriously ill several years ago and had fog brain and emotionalo ups and downs. I looked at it like it was my time to be funky. I'll be a dynamite person to others later. Now when I look back I am so grateful that I'm not there but I wouldn't be here if I hadn't been there. (I hope I said it clearly enough) Jaye
Guest guest
Hi Harper, I find it interesting that you also took the same antibiotic! Maybe it is a cause, maybe it planted the AIH seed in us that eventually grew into full blown AIH years later. If no one knows what the cause is, how can they say that something like this is not possible. If we can find a cause we can help stop others from getting this disease. When that doctor ran the blood tests years ago when I was a teenager and was concerned, I'm sure he knew normal flu emzyme levels from the levels he saw. I truly believe because of other experiences during my life that I've had AIH for a very long time and it flairs up at times and then goes into remission. At the present time all my blood emzymes are normal and the only medication I take is URSO. Thanks for being there everyone, we're all in this together. Guest guest
Here's an interesting NIH article on minocycline and and AIH: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2349841/ Basically, autoimmune diseases in general are familial; presumably some trigger sets off them off. Here's what the Mayo Clinic site says: " Just why the body turns against itself is unclear, but researchers think autoimmune hepatitis could be caused by an interaction between several risk factors, such as infections, medications and a genetic predisposition. " I'm glad to hear that your blood levels are normal and that you're taking only urso. What a great situation to be in! I can't remember how you were diagnosed. Best wishes on continuing to have such good test results. Harper [ ] Re: Causes of AIH Hi Harper, I find it interesting that you also took the same antibiotic!
