Guest guest
Unfortunately, Cailin's correct, as you can see from her list which was taken directly from the sees website. Guest guest
Each store has that the gluten-free/gluten list as well. I found out several weeks ago when buying some candy as a present in the Santa Clara store at El Camino and Pomeroy. Guest guest
I used to love See’s Candy (probably part of the reason I developed type 2 diabetes), but years ago we found they had gluten in them; then when they came out with the GF list, we happily dove in again. Sadly, every time we had them, always sticking to what was listed as gluten-free, we got sick. We tried several times, then I just gave it up as not worth it. I don’t know if things have improved since then (I’m talking 7 to 10 years ago), but now we just buy from the local Santa Cruz chocolate shop Mackenzie's Chocolates. We have never gotten sick from their chocolates. They are more pure chocolate oriented as opposed to See’s, which have more candy types (golly, I sure miss the rum raisin). Also they have sugarless chocolate that is very good. I miss the variety at See’s but not the getting sick. I’d be interested to know how many on the list eat See’s with no problem versus how many have gotten sick, and how recently and how often the experience was. I am wondering if they are more careful now than in the past and if they have resolved whatever cross contamination issues must have been going on. Guest guest
My husband brought home a jar of the Almond Royal candy last week, and I have been PIGGING OUT! I’ve eaten over half the jar all by my lonesome, and have had no problems. Remember that I am one of the super sensitive ones, too. This is the first See’s Candy experiment I have conducted since going GF. I can’t speak to any of the other candies, but this one, at least, is okay. I suspect with some of the mixed boxes, there may have been some CC. Also, this link might be helpful: http://surefoodsliving.com/2008/12/21/sees-candies-allergy-information/ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of j. hogle Sent: Tuesday, December 22, 2009 6:37 PM Subject: Re: [ ] See's Candies Sorry that you had problems with See's, Pam. My wife has tried several types of candy since we found out that they had the GF list. So far, no problem, and she has severe CS (the anemia, blood transfusions, etc.). On the other hand, I have also been buying chocolates from an artisan chocolate maker, Chocolate Dream in Los Gatos, for my wife. They're not cheap, but I talked to the chocolatier Holly who informed me that they were all gluten free. - From a chocoholic (oh where, oh where have ph Schmidt's dark chocolate truffles [maybe not gluten-free] gone?)
