Kathy,

<Sorry i don't mean to pick on you. This is just a very good example.

I'm not offended. It's a good point. And as I cut the bottom of this off, I

must admit you did pick an excellent example. I thought I would never get to

the end!

<<And isn't it self-centered for expect others to do their work for them?

If a person cannot take a few simple steps to make it easier for that person

to sort and read their email they should not expect others to do it for

them.

Trimming posts is also self-serving. It makes it easier to read the replies.

Not sure which side your arguing for? : ) But trimming is accepted

standard " netiquette " and normally required for most lists.

I'll not argue with that.

I am definitely not against trimming. Just stating that trimming can be

beneficial to both the writer and the reader. Because the writer does become

the reader. ;-)

But one who does not trim should not expect others to do it for them.

Most of the complaints seem to come from those on digests. The tone is that

because they are on digest others should shorten the posts they send.

I have never been part of a list before where this courtesy was considered

something to debate about, fascinating.

It's the polite thing to do and it's part of netiquette. It's similar to

people with no netiquette sending someone a joke that has been forwarded a

zillion times and has accumulated huge address books at the beginning. Do you

enjoy scrolling down through all the garbage to get to the content?

Ah! You admit that it's a " courtesy " . This appears to be a list that LOVES to

debate ;-)

Yes, please trim posts when you can. " Trim posts " means that you delete

all the extra lines connected in your message when you reply - often

three or four other replies are still connected and you might not know

it unless you scroll down or trim regularly.

,

When you hit reply, you can put your curser at the top of the

message, and then type your statement. Then just highlight the

unwanted text and hit delete. I'm leaving part of your message

attached, but deleting the rest.

I agree that they are really long posts/threads, whatever you call

them. How do people go find their old posts to check for replies? On

other forums I'm a part of, there is a link to find your posts and

re-read them. Or the forum just automatically sends me an email that

someone responded to my post. WHy doesn't do that?

Hope this helps,

, a suggestion, this is what I do with groups I join on .

Change from digest to " no email " where you can just go to the website

(I type in www.) and then log in and all your groups

you joined show and you just click on the group you want and read the

posts/replies there. This way, none go to your personal email daily

and there's no long digest. I just find this much easier.

>

> I would like to ask ya'll to please trim your posts. I am on

digest but have not been able to keep up (even on digest) because to

scroll thru all the messages that are left on each email takes

forever. Below is an example. (There were 25 emails in the digest.

90% have additional posts attached.) The first one is the new

message and if you will look.....there are 8 previous posts that were

left on as the conversation went back and forth.

, I'm not sure how you receive/read the posts? I just did a

reply about how I read all posts at the website so none come to my

personal email.

Anyway, at the website when I want to reply to a post, all I do after

hitting " reply " and typing my response above the previous post is to

scroll down and then I click where I want to begin to delete and

highlight on down what I want to delete and press delete.

Will that work for you too?

I'm not entirely sure what I did but it worked. Thanks,

Thanks, Pam.  I get the digest, and couldn't see the last several posts yesterday because of this problem.  I don't like to complain, so I mostly just ignore it.  I know I could go to the site and read the individual posts, but there's a reason I get the digest.

By trimming posts I gather you mean delete the post that you are answering

because it was already posted? That makes sense and sometimes there are posts

and more posts from people answering other posts. I suppose the thing to do

is highlight the previous post and delete it before replying or everything sent

will be included in our response.

Thanks,

Joe C.
