Guest guest
--Alpine, That is great that you are home!! I am glad you got to check in...had us all wondering!!! All that responded to my concern about pain meds, thanks..I think I needed a pep talk. I know I am doing alot and I get frustrated with myself that I can't do more, faster! I feel the pressure from my family too. In their minds I should be better, darn surgery was almost 6 months ago!! Patience is not one of my strong points!!!, PA - In , " advokam " <advokam@...> wrote: > > Alpine, > > It is so wonderful to read your post and know that you are home! > You've been on my mind so much and I kept wondering if I just " showed > up " in Amarillo, if I'd be able to find you! Guest guest
Terry, Congrats on your return home! I am so glad to hear that things went well and you are feeling alright. It is a time of tears isn't it? It is amazing how emotional most of us are in the aftermath of tis surgery. Who knows if it is the relief, the meds or what. Anyway, don't do too much....take it slow and check in when you can. We will be thinking about you! Take Care, Cam

The retreat was truly wonderful, all the gals were remarkably like they are online, warm, funny, and dear friends. The retreat site was truly beautiful, food was great, and neat to see the ocean once again, even if it was facing the wrong direction( us west coasters HAHA). Came home with a ton of sea shells that Joyce was so kind to help me find. Now that I'm back to reality, it will be tough to settle in again, will miss the conversation, and most of all our fun " Cocktail hour " . Lets definately do this again, I truly feel rested, and sooooo glad to have met so many of you in person! Off to do laundry, back to the grind! > > > Colorado Springs >
Guest guest
Peggy, Glad to hear you made it home okay. Now comes the healing. I hope the hip pain subsides soon. I know they have to really move all those muscles out of the way to get the iliac screws in and I hope that it is just a matter of time before that eases up a bit. If you feel it would be better to get a hospital bed, it isn't too late..I think most of the surgical/hospital supply stores rent on fairly short notice....if you can find a space to put it they can probably get on to you almost right away. I hope you are still having someone come in from home health services...it sounds like you will need a bit of help the next few weeks...and it won't hurt to give hubby a break here and there! It will take some time to adjust to your new body....and all the adaptations you need to make at first. Slowly you will find that some of them are no longer necessary. Getting out of the hospital as quickly as you did may just mean that you really need to baby yourself even more than we did. Take is slow. Wishing you a good rest tonight. Guest guest
Hi Peggy, You sound happy to be home even though it's a big adjustment at first. I don't think you are experiencing anything out of the ordinary. This is a tough, painful time but I really think you are going to do just fine. I would suggest that you talk to Dr. Hey if your meds are not doing the job, rather than just adding something like Tylenol on your own. He might be able to change your meds to something that will help you more. Meds can be a trial and error thing. There's not just one post op protocol. For instance, I had a heck of a time with meds at first (Dilaudid and Vicodin), till they finally changed mine to MS Contin. Some people have been on something else altogether. You need your rest, so you need to find something comfortable to sleep on. You could try a mattress topper on your bed, or you can still call a medical supply place for a hospital bed. If Dr. Hey prescribes one, insurance may pay for it. Good luck. It will get better. Bonnie [ ] I'm home I got home yesterday about 4:30. My husband hasn't set my lap top up yet so I finally turned on my pc in the wee hours of the morning, The hip pain is excruciating - brings me to tears. Dr. Hey said that where he inserted most of the hardware and should ease soon. I sure hope so I can get some sleep. I sat on the bench seat last night with my old neck collar on to keep my head up while I slept. I just can't lie down in my bed in any way shape or form. I would definitely recommend a hospital bed which I didn't think I would need. Take it from me, you will need it all! Even the bedside commode just so you can lower yourself up and down on toilet until you are stronger. I wet myself trying to get to the bathroom in time so it took me awhile to get cleaned up and dresses as had gone to get my meds. Must have been a good 30 minutes using all the gadgets to get my socks, undies, etc. on. I'm sure we all have our moments like this when we are first home alone! I fell asleep and had forgotten to hit send. So I'm back, I just had my first BM at home! Yea! I'm going to continue taking the Senokot for awhile. Now to just get rid of the pain. I was supposed to be one OxyContin 2 bid with Oxycodone for breakthrough pain. Instead I'm getting 2 Oxycodone every 4 hours with Valium every 4 hours for muscle spasms. I just don't feel like it is doing enough so I've added Tylenal an I'm to continue the Relafen. Hopefully everything will even out in a few days. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I got home yesterday. I've been doing a lot of resting and some walking and sitting between rests. I get a little out of breath when I sit or walk but I'm sure that will go away as I get stronger. I have to go to the plastic surgeon on Wed, to check out the incision and will go for my first post op with the surgeon on the 25th. Thanks to everyone for their best wishes and support. Going to bed now. Caren

Guest guest
Caren, Welcome home and congrats on getting to the " other side " ! It is a slow recovery but you will be amazed at how much better you feel with each passing day. Amazing also how zapped of energy you are the first few weeks. Don't be shy about letting others do for you now....and for awhile! I think a big day the first few weeks home is getting a shower in, along with a change of clothes...so just do your job...rest and heal. Looking forward to hearing more about how things went when you feel you have the energy. Take Care, Cam
