Stomach Cleansing Dhauti

An excerpt from the book:

" Sivananda Yoga Center, Yoga Mind and Body "

Yogic Practice of Cleansing the Abdomen

To be performed twice a week

Dhauti cleanses the esophagus and stomach by removing excess mucus and food

left on the stomach walls.

Use a 16ft (5 m) roll of 2 in. gauze soaked in a solution of diluted sea

salt and tap water. At first, swallow only one feet (30 cm), gradually

increasing each time until you can swallow the full length.

Step One: Begin by chewing one end of the guaze in the mouth, and chew and

swallow until a short length remains out of the mouth.

Step Two: Keep the cloth in the stomach, and perform abdominal churning.

Bend forward slightly, with hands on thighs. Take a deep breath and exhale

fully, pushing on the thighs. Draw stomach muscles in and out. Then, pull

the gauze out. Practice twice a week on an empty stomach.

Also, try, Nasal Cleansing or Neti, and you won’t have any allergies.

Place one half a teaspoon of sea salt in a cup of lukewarm tap water. Tip

your head to the left and hold your breath. Poor water into the right

nostril and out of the left. Blow your nose and repeat on the other side.

Neti is good for allergies, asthma, and respiratory problems.

Dhauti cleanses the stomach of impurities, and it will make you feel

wonderful if you can avoid feeling afraid of doing it.
