Some small small percentage of people with CD can tolerate no oatmeal, regardless of how "clean". It appears to be a genetic variation. You can learn more about this on celiac.com.

Have you tried BRM GF oatmeal? I haven't used McCann's since I developed CD symptoms, so I can't compare.

This is what their website says:

Are McCann's Oat products gluten free?

All McCann’s oat products are processed in

a dedicated oatmeal mill that handles only oatmeal. In the supply chain between

farm and mill, there is a possible cross contamination with other grains, such

as wheat and barley but we reckon that the level of non-oat grains to be less

than 0.05%. Cleaning equipment within the milling process would remove the vast

majority of these grains along with other elements such as stones, straw etc.

But we cannot guarantee that McCann’s oats

are totally gluten free and we recommend that consumers use their own judgement

as to whether they wish to use our oatmeal or not. Many celiacs can tolerate

our oatmeal products without any adverse effect but they may not suit those who

are particularly sensitive.

Do you react to other oatmeals as well, or

is this your first try?

I had some McCann's Irish oatmeal today, and oh boy

,

did I get glutened. I thought they were supposed to be safe, but I guess not.

Anyone else have experience with McCann's?

I've reacted badly to " normal " , supermarket type oats, and the loose stuff sold

at the hippie store. Funny thing is, I've always been a sort of " borderline "

celiac. I don't worry about tiny amounts of cross contamination, like having a

crumb on my burger. It's never been a problem. I even have a beer once in a

while with no reaction. But oats get me every time, even the ones that are made

in dedicated facilities. I'm giving up on oats---not worth it. I haven't had an

overt reaction like this since I broke down and ate 2 donuts 4 years ago.
