Guest guest
Pure Fit and Think Thin are two “protein bars” that might fit your bill (although as was mentioned, Think Thin has dairy). I haven’t found any other GF protein bars (although there probably are more out there I haven’t found). I prefer the Think Thin to the Pure Fit, but both rely heavily on soy products for protein, which can cause problems of its own. Neither one rates more than OK with me. Both are around 240 calories per bar. Compare these to Nutiva’s hempseed bar or Ruth’s “I Want You to Vote Hemp” bars. These rely on nuts and seeds for protein, but the sweeteners are not low glycemic. I prefer the Ruth’s for taste (180 calories /bar). You could also try Mrs May’s pumpkin crunch or some of her other products; however, again, these are not made with low glycemic sweeteners. In spite of this, these bars all have a good ratio of protein to carbs. Nuts are OK, but have lots of calories. I would try to limit the peanut butter just because of the aflatoxins, but also because they have more fat/calories than other nuts. Almonds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are very nutritious and/or have fewer calories. You can make your own nut butter from sunflower seeds. The “make your own” option may be the only way to go, but I haven’t crossed that particular bridge just yet. You can’t get something for nothing. To lose weight you just have to eat less calories one way or another. Eat as many veggies as possible and count calories. I know how hard this is and am working on losing weight myself. I have tried various approaches but it all keeps coming down to calories (and, of course, exercise; however I have found that, at least for me, no amount of exercise trumps too many calories). Guest guest
Thanks Pam! I google the pure fit and they have more protein than anything else i've found! They have a bit more sugar than I'd like, but less than a lot of them and less fat too. I know soy isn't that great for me, but since I CANT do ANY dairy and rice protein tastes really nasty to me, I dont always have much choice! I mostly use them for when I'm out climbing all day and need some serious protein thats easy to carry, but they are also good to have along in case I'm stuck somewhere without food. Now I just have to figure out where to buy them around here. I actually just read an article in a paper somewhere that talks about how exercising is really good for you, but is NOT particularly good if you are trying to loose weight, that people need to focus on calorie reduction much more (although still exercise for many reasons!) I really need to figure out an alternative to my mainstay of nutbutter on rice crackers, although its a fairly healthy option, NOT low calorie. Good luck in your weight loss quest as well. Guest guest
The best protein bars, in my opinion, come from Metagenics. There are 2 flavors that are rice-based...chocolate and apple cinnamon... and believe me they are NOT nasty-tasting at all! They're actually labeled as " medical food " and are the only bars given that designation by the FDA. They can be ordered through nutritionists or direct sales reps or through any practitioner's office who carries them. I'd be happy to provide more information if you like! > > > Thanks Pam! Guest guest
I just went and googled them and finally found them and an ingredient list, looks like they have whey protein???? Perhaps you were thinking of something else? From: bonnie@...Date: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 23:42:25 +0000Subject: [ ] Re: more protein, less fat and sugar?
