Guest guest
Hello, I have found that I really like Atkins Advantage High protein bars. It's convenient for me to pick them up at Wal-mart. I am a chocohalic, so I have found I like the chocolate decadence flavor, almond brownie and chocolate peanut butter flavor the best, but they do make some non chocolate flavors too. They have anywhere from 17 to 21 grahams of protein, 0 g of sugar. Protein comes from both soy and whey. I can not stand the protein shakes, so this is my only source of extra protein that I take in. I carry one or two of these bars with me at all times and when I find myself needing a bite of food these help alot. I try to eat 2 a day. My health food store doesn't have a very good selection of protein bars, so of the other bars I have been able to try these tasted the best to me and I can find them pretty much at any store. They really are good tasting. Hope this helps. Roney St. Louis, MO Dr. H Joplin 10/29/03 245/
Guest guest
1) i know think thin bars are gluten free, but i believe they are made with whey protein, so i'm not sure if you would want to eat those. they also have malitol and other hard to pronounce ingredients. 2) if you want to make your own protein bars, they will store well in the fridge/freezer. try these: http://healthyindulgences.blogspot.com/search/label/atkins%20bars (you will want to use the coconut milk and rice or soy protein instead of the dairy ingredients.) there's also a recipe in the new rules of lifting for women where you mix protein powder with ground flax and peanut butter and a little water. i have made it successfully with brown rice protein and almond butter. Thanks for your input.// I don't have any in front of me to check the nutritional info, so I looked up the websites so you could look for yourself ::grin:: Some that taste pretty good to me are (in no particular order): 1)Balance Gold (I like the chocolate cookie mint) http://www.balance.com/gold/detail.aspx?id=chocolateMintCookieCrunch & bartype=gol\ d 2) Zone Perfect (any of the dark chocolate) http://zoneperfect.com/products/dark-chocolate 3) Oh Yeah! (I get the smaller half size ones called " good grab " ) http://www.ohyeahnutrition.com/goodgrab.php The balance gold are good enough that I have to hide them from my adult kids. My grocery store recently had them marked down to .49.. I cleaned them out! enjoy banded 03/09/
Guest guest
Protein bars for a meal replacement is a tough issue. I've found that most do not have an adequate calorie-count for, say - lunch - of 350 cal or so. Remember, we're never trying to eat as few calories as possible. A 150-180 cal " meal " is very insufficient, and what most of us tried to do before, that ended us up even heavier and needing WLS. . They don't have any veggies, some have no fiber, most are high-sugar, and the high-protein ones dump way , especially for diabetics, whose kidneys always have a bit of damage, even if the standard kidney function tests are ok. The ones I use rarely for a backup are the Kashi ones, and I usually have 2 to meet the calorie needs for lunch.
