Guest guest
Just in case anyone is interested… From: Iscol [mailto:info@...] Sent: Monday, November 16, 2009 7:03 AM Iscol Cc: germaine.schwider@... Subject: Fwd: Opportunity for Newly Diagnosed Hi North Bay Celiacs members and local support groups leaders, If you have been gluten-free for less than three months you may be eligible to participate in the ongoing program described below, which compensates plasma donors with $250. The Binding Site manufactures the tests that labs use to diagnose celiac disease. Every time someone is tested for celiac disease, the lab needs plasma from a donor to validate the test (process it in a scientifically valid and accurate way). So you would also be performing a good deed for the community. North Bay Celiacs does not have a financial relationship with the Binding Site. Please direct your questions to the Binding Site contact below. Sincerely, Iscol www.northbayceliacs.org Begin forwarded message: From: " Schwider, Germaine " <germaine.schwider@...> Date: November 13, 2009 3:01:19 PM PST <info@...> Subject: Opportunity for Newly Diagnosed I would like to inform you of an opportunity for persons who are newly diagnosed with celiac disease to participate in an ongoing program related to the diagnostics industry. Diagnostic test manufacturers require plasma in order to validate tests and to continue making tests for celiac disease. My project at the Binding Site is to recruit persons diagnosed with celiac disease that have high antibodies to tissue transglutaminase and gliadin who would be interested in participation. Qualified candidates are asked to go to the Stanford Blood Center in Palo Alto to donate plasma that is essential to the diagnostics industry’s ability to produce laboratory tests for celiac disease. Donating plasma is much like a blood donation except that only the plasma is drawn. I will take care of the arrangements for participants. We compensate our donors $250 for their time and pay for travel in mileage or for public transportation. To qualify for participation, candidates must: · Have identification and be 18 years of age or older · Have recent lab results demonstrating high antibody activity · Be gluten free for less than 3 months · Be in general good health . No anemia or high blood pressure. There is more detailed information on plasma donation and on this opportunity in general on our web site. You will find my contact information on the web site and I encourage you to feel free to contact me for more information or to see if you or someone you know may qualify. (http://celiac.thebindingsite.com) I realize that people who have celiac disease that participate in support group activities are likely to have their antibodies well under control by maintaining a gluten free diet. They are also likely to come into contact with someone who is trying to learn about managing this disease and may be interested in helping us. Our web site tries to assist newly diagnosed people by providing some information in a brief and sensible approach to help lower the anxiety level of someone who first learns about their diagnosis. It is my hope that it is helpful to them whether or not they choose to participate in our project. Thanks for your consideration.
