I was told by my gi that gluten is only a problem ingredient in skin and hair care products if it gets in your mouth - gluten isn't able to travel through your skin. Of course, if you have an allergy that might be different; he was giving me advice pertinent to having celiac, not a gluten allergy.

It's my understanding that some products (like herbs and spice, and even grated cheese) can have an anti-caking agent in them that might contain gluten. It's these hidden sources, in surprising places that are problematical .

My shampoo had wheat in it. My scalp was getting blisters , and I couldn't figure out why til I read the label more carefully. It was a japanese shampoo that was 100% natural...but not 100% gluten free.
