Guest guest
> > Hi: I just listened to a great video on YouTube by Dr. Vikki sen that talks about reasons that Vit. D levels might not come up even if you are totally gluten free. There was a lot of great information, including some surprising information on how other supplements - like retinol (vit. A) and cod liver oil - could block absorption of D. This might give you some other avenues to investigate. The title is: Vitamin D3: Latest Research. Good Luck! -------------------------------------------------------------- Interesting that this should come up now. I just went to the dr. last week for a check-up, and found out I'm low on vit. D. I've been gf for years now---can't remember how many, but at least 7. Of course, I also don't eat any dairy, so that could be why I'm so low on D. She put me on a prescription D pill: 50,000 iu/ once a week for 2 months. Then I get re-tested. She told me that I will be amazed at how well I feel when my levels get up to normal. I hope she is right, because I have been feeling like cr@p for a long time. I've been having a lot of pain in my hands and feet lately. I went on a fast for 24 hours, and then ate very simply for several days. Only home cooked food, nothing processed. No corn, no pork, no red meat, no soda. The pain in my hands disappeared completely. I introduced buffalo, and that was fine. Sunday night, some friends took me to a Taiwanese restaurant on Clement St called " Taste of Formosa " : 2428 Clement St., San Francisco, CA 94121. The food was absolutely disgusting. I ate very little of anything except the white rice. Within 1 hour of eating, my hands became quite painful, and have remained that way. I mentioned this to my rheumatologist, and she thinks I got glutened, or there was MSG in the food. She says gluten can cause joint pain in Celiacs. Have any of you noticed this? I think she may be right, because my digestive system has been really upset all week, and now i have dire-rear :^( This is the worse reaction I've had in many years, and I don't even react to things like beer or small amounts of soy sauce! God only knows what was in that food. I'm wondering if any of you have joint pains/arthritis that is worsened by gluten? I went to see her under suspicion of having rheumatoid arthritis. Turns out I have a genetic form of arthritis in my hands and feet that causes calcifications and bone spurs and subsequent swelling and bumps in in all the joints in my fingers. They are called Bouchard's and Heberden's nodes. I'm trying to find out if this is at all linked to celiac. Anyone know? BTW, if anyone needs a rheumatologist in San Francisco, I highly recommend her. Her name is Dr. Kirstin Morehead. Lori
