Guest guest
Martha updates us on changes in bay area celiac group organization. Also, below, more details on that celiac awareness day at the Giant’s game. Sounds like it is shaping up to be quite an event (with a Mariposa sandwich included it’s almost worth the trek up there from SC). Subject: SF Bay Area Celiac News....April 29 SF BAY AREA CELIAC NEWS………………..APRIL 29, 2010 The Celiac and Gluten Free world has been changing a lot over the last few years as our numbers are growing and access to information and gluten free products has become much better. But we all agree that new and old need to stay in touch with others living the gluten free life, and we think it is useful to keep our network active in this region. Some of us have been debating how to continue this news service for the mailing list started by Ellen Switkes almost 20 years ago when she established the first SF area support group. (I decided that it is a good time for me to retire, although it has been fun keeping up with all of you for more than 7 years!) We are very pleased to announce that we have a new Oakland leader who will be taking over the list and news responsibility: Batavia. is a friend of Ellen Switkes and the mother of a 19 yr-old UCLA student (Meg) who was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 12. Over the past 7 years she has educated herself, her family and her friends about celiac disease, and has acted as THE advocate for her daughter's health at home and at UCLA. She is a contributing member of the Celiac Disease Foundation and will be attending the CDF Conference being held in Los Angeles on May 15. To facilitate the communication process has decided to use an email service called MailChimp. She will be sending you an email from the Oakland Celiac Support Group so that you can indicate whether you wish to remain on the mailing list, or not, by either clicking 'Unsubscribe' or 'Update Your Profile.' Please know that your privacy will be strictly guarded. We also want to thank Iscol who has been a wonderful leader not only in her dedicated support of North Bay activities but as our central resource for Bay area news in recent months, as she has been posting news for all of us on her website: http://www.northbayceliacs.org/SFnews.html Recently organized a meeting of area support group leaders to discuss how we can coordinate future communication among gluten free communities in our large region of Northern California. A group was established to continue the conversation, and the name NORCAL GF Leaders was chosen, recognizing those who do not actually live close to the SF Bay. You will be hearing more about this as plans develop. And until then you can also continue to read about activities on 's site. Best wishes to all of you!
