Guest guest
I make smoothies everyday and don't have leftovers. I use about six/seven ice cubes, about a cup of milk, two scoops of my protein and fruit (1 banana or about 7 or so strawberries). I put in a dash of vanilla it kinda cuts the funny taste but ONLY a dash. That will make a little more than one big glass. Good Luck. Guest guest
Smoothies, Shakes, Boost, Ensure, Coffee Colotas. etc ALL go through me like greased lightening. I mean in less than 30 minutes. So liquid drinks are out of the question: #1: I can't be more than 10 feet from the Loo, and #2: I don't keep any nutrition in me. Sorry about the topic. But I might as well throw my two cents in. Guest guest
I make my smoothies in the blender and actually use it with protein powder for breakfast. I make enough to fill the bender and put the blender in the fridge and re-blend each morning for about 3 days. PAM.....are you a secretor? If so, rock on with the soy milk, babe! jb(likes his heavy cream straight.....and a few chunks of banana might be an IDEA!) > I love smoothies! I have been using vanilla soy milk and frozen fruit. Yum! Last night I just used cherry juice, no milk, and it seemed lacking! I'll have to use the milk since I don't miss my ice cream that way and use some juice for the added flavor and nutrition. > > >

Guest guest
I should have added that milk and cream would be great taste additions to my smoothie, but I don't use milk during the day because I'm on the WD. My smoothie is designed to minimize insulin response and digestive need, though I include eggs to make sure I have a reasonable supply of amino acids. Guest guest
@@@@@@@ Almond butter delight smoothy Servings: 1 1 frozen banana 1 cup raw whole milk 3 heaping tablespoons+ of raw almond butter, if in the mood for peanut butter you can use that as well This is a hit with kids! @@@@@@@@ It's probably much cheaper and more nutritious to just germinate some raw whole almonds for a day or so and then then toss them in the blender instead of buying or making almond butter, and much more nutritious if the raw almond butter is made without a germination step (which I'm guessing is true of commercial almond butter). I certainly wouldn't have any problem drinking it in one sitting, but I drink it during the low-calorie part of my day. It makes about 15-20 oz, so I'll have a few oz. for breakfast with sauerkraut, then a about 5 oz for morning break at work, then about 10 oz at lunch, and the remaining little bit in the afternoon. Unless I deliberately sip it to make it last during lunch, it takes me just a slug or two, over 15 seconds or so, to drink half the smoothie, so I imagine it would be easy to drink it in one sitting otherwise. On the other hand, you're talking to the guy who can eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's or Hagen Daz in 10-15 minutes, which contains up to 1300 calories. Guest guest
I am trying to think... a smoothie is fruit right? I think you can have yogurt now, possibly by week 4 I think fruits? (It has been so long, I can't remember). I know Dr A couldn't put every food on the post op diet but I think a fruit smoothie is ok at week 4. Nina will know for sure. Guest guest
Becky, I missed this post before, sorry. Smoothies are fine in regards to the thickness but really they are loaded with calories. You need to be very careful with them. The ones that are sold in some places can have up to 800 calories. Smoothies are a perfect example of high calories liquids to avoid. If making them at home it is easier to control the amount of calories. Check the calorie counting links we have here to have an idea on how much you are getting in one smoothie. Many fruits are loaded with carbs too. If you like protein shakes you might consider putting one in the blender with some ice to give it a little twist, this way you get the protein, lower calories and few carbs. I love the Atkins Advantage in vanilla and strawberry, it tastes like a dessert and kills the sugar cravings. Nina > > I am trying to think... a smoothie is fruit right?
