Guest guest
Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good Christmas. I just wanted to share that my extended family Christmas get-together time helped with the acceptance of the changes I'm dealing with with my back. My sister, the family peace-maker, was here, and she really helped bring the discussion about in a very peaceful and loving manner. By the end of the week I felt like my parents and other sibling had finally gotten it. My sister in law made me sit down during clean-up time. (I was pretty sore from overdoing the day before.) My mom made gentle comments to me asking about how I felt, etc...Yeah! My emotional well-being is much improved by having them on my side! As for other steps forward, I finally dared check into insurance and physical therapy. Insurance will cover up to 30 visits a year (me: office visit copay only). The Dr. only prescribed 12, so that's a go. I have my first visit scheduled this Friday. More next week. Then, the dr. who gave me such a hard time did still refer me to Dr. Kasten from Kalamazoo, so I just received information for an office visit on Jan. 13 at 8:45 a.m. Insurance again covers with me only required the office visit copay. The brochure I got says his practice is limited to injuries and deformities of the spine in pediatric and adult patients, and he specializes in spine revision surgery. The brochure also says the practice deals with degenerative stenosis, failed previous spinal surgery, flatback, osteotomies, etc. So I was encouraged to see flatback since that is really only a Harrington rod patient problem. My husband is working that day, and I'd like to save his vacation time for any more traumatic procedures, so I actually asked my dad to drive me and be my support. Michigan roads in winter are unpredicable, and I get lost easily, so I was glad he was able to take me. My dad seems to have come around a bit on the back trouble I'm having, so hopefully he can be supportive on the emotional side of things as well. I doubt Dr. Kasten, who consistently deals with adult scoliosis patients, would be as insensitive as the dr. who treated me so poorly before. So, I am hopeful that I can get some relief from the therapy and some more insight into what's going on from Dr. Kasten. Thanks for listening!
