Guest guest
DRiley, did your foot bone break in some unexpected way? Does the doctor who treated it know you have CD? Have you have a bone density scan? (One needs to meet certain requirements, but you might want to find out.) Are you taking calcium with D? Have you had Vitamin D levels checked? I've been told that breaks in feet and hands doesn't count for an osteoporosis score. On the other hand, an endocrinologist told me he looks at that sort of breakage. Those of us with CD are at higher risk for bone loss, of course. (And if one takes Prednisone for any reason, that really ups the risk.) It wouldn't hurt to look into calcium w/D supplements, at the very least. Follow your doctor's instructions about protecting your broken foot. Healing can be much delayed if you don't. Harper I broke a bone in my foot and somewhat confined to where I can get rides! Thanks anyway. -----Original Message----- From: driley99 <driley99@...> Sent: Thu, Feb 11, 2010 2:52 pm Subject: RE: [ ] Re: free zines in SF (Mission/Castro)
Guest guest
Harper, Very good points! I will ask the orthopedist about the break & CD. I do take extra D with calcium because I’m now low in D. Had bone density scan soon after diagnosis of CD and was told for a woman my age it is fine and compared okay with my prior test a few years ago. Now I look at everything as possibly CD related.
