To all of you avid gardeners,

I haven't done anything this year and probably won't - last year I did a

little. So my family was asking if I was going to plant flowers and I said

no, I'm too busy watching the neighbor's beautiful yard grow while I'm

sitting on the couch!

Keep telling us about them - I have a beautiful picture in my mind and

can just smell the sweetness...

I really should but I don't. We live in Houston so winters are mild and

summers are brutally hot. My mom had an incredible crop of watermelons a

few years ago. She is an avid gardener. The kids would have a ball if we

could grow some watermelons. Hmmmm... maybe your motivating me to start

small.

Mmm...nothing taste better than a home grown vine ripened tomato! I grew three plants a couple of years ago, along with some chili peppers, habenero peppers, bell peppers, corn, potatoes, onions, strawberries, cucumbers, zucchini and mint. It was wonderful! The following year I planted when "they" said it was ok and we got a freak freeze, killed it all. Replanted and you got it, another freak freeze. Since then, we moved and the ground is not good for planting, so a friend built me a raised box for a few plants. I haven't had a chance to try it because of our freaky weather. Maybe this year will be better for it.

Goal for now is to get to where the scale can read my weight!

I've pretty much given up any thought of doing any type of 'getting on

the ground type of gardening'. At least for now. Everything I have

going right now is in huge pots and its working for me. I'm finding it

even hard to get out and prune roses. SO much so that I am having Bob

tear out all the roses I have in the front yard. Yea, I threw in the

towel on those I guess.
