Guest guest
Bones restaurant, Gualala, CA - north on Highway One Gualala is distant from the Bay, but folks do vacation up here. I live here part-time. I usually avoid BBQ, considering it high risk for gluten, but this place is a wonderful exception. It serves magnificent GF BBQ. Its "secret" sauce, according to a former cook and according to current waiters, contains no gluten. So far, the beans also are GF. I check each time to make sure the beans recipe doesn't change. One can have a really good meal of truly exceptional BBQ and beans. My guess is that they'd let you bring in a bottle of Redbridge to go with it; I've not yet asked. I suspect the coleslaw is made with malt vinegar. However, I've eaten it the Bones coleslaw dozens of times with no ill effects, and I'm extremely sensitive. I wouldn't eat malt vinegar deliberately -- I thought of the malt vinegar possibility only recently and I haven't had a chance to check it out. The waiters I've had are extremely considerate about avoiding cross-contamination. Bones is a destination for bikers and blues lovers. It burned down about a year ago -- a tragedy for our community -- and it re-opened this month in a new location. H.
