Guest guest
Hi group, I seem to have had a gluten-type reaction from my home-made lunch yesterday. It was prepared at home in a GF environment & was a really simple meal -- only potato, spinach, and grilled chicken breast with just some olive oil. I heated it up at work in our communal microwave oven. So, I am trying to narrow down what it could be. Have any of you ever have any experience finding fresh meat to contain gluten? It was organic chicken purchased at Whole Foods. I know that some meats are could be injected with things, but this seemed pretty innocuous. Alternately, I wonder if there were CC issues from the microwave? How do you all deal with heating up you lunches in your workplace if microwaves could be an issue? Many thanks. Guest guest
The other day at Whole Foods I was a little annoyed to see the meatloaf in the meat counter with bread crumbs flung all over the other meats nearby. If you are highly sensitive to gluten there is a great chance that any chicken you purchase from WF's that isn't prepackaged (like the Rosie chicken breasts in the front of the counter) that you might get glutened due to the meats they prep with bread crumbs, terriyaki, etc. From: cunninghamlynn68 <cunningh@...>Subject: [ ] glutened from fresh chicken ? or microwave? Guest guest
I notice this at other butchers. As far as WF goes, I imagine this varies according to the location. Speak to the manager of the butchers' area and also of the store. I'll check this out at the WF I go to most, in Sebastopol. In a house that I sometimes share with non-GF relatives, I wipe down the inside of the non-GF microwave and toaster oven frequently, just in case. In the non-GF toaster oven, I have a dedicated GF rack. In the non-GR microwave, I always place my food on something. Guest guest
I am always careful using a microwave. I always take my lunch to school in Glasslock containers. I love them since they seal so well. However I refuse to microwave plastic so I remove the lid and always cover my dish with a clean paper towel when I microwave since many microwaves are filthy inside and I worry about debris dropping from the ceiling of the microwave. At home I place my food on a plate and cover with a second plate to reheat meals or I cover the bowl of soup with a plate. This helps keep the microwave clean, holds in the heat, and insures no contamination. -- Kimes Burgess Fremont, CA suekbee@... http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=burgess_kimes & I11.x=34 & I11.y=\ 2 http://picasaweb.google.com/suekbee
