Some doctors will do this, some won’t. Ours doesn’t,

but because our daughter was having gi problems at that time, we did do it to

rule out gluten as the cause. If going off gluten has helped your daughter,

then lately more doctors are saying that’s all that matters -- no repeat

biopsy is needed.

Best,

Subject: [ ] Repeat Biopsy Yes or No?

Hello Everyone –

Our Pediatric GI recommended a biopsy one year post diagnosis. I am

wondering if others have or have not repeated their biopsies and what would be

the good reasons to do so?

Thank you

Cara

I've had several. My GI at Kaiser routinely does a follow-up biopsy at six months after one goes GF, to confirm the diagnosis and to make sure healing is taking place.

I had others because of particular problems that occurred. Also, when I moved from Kaiser to UCSF, the GI dept there wanted their own data. It showed no damage at all, five years after CD diagnosis. The UCSF GI insistently asked why I believed I had CD, as there was no remaining evidence of it. I assured him that I have CD.
