If you can get the water hot enough to melt off the wax, that will help. The pesticides are applied with a material that prevents them from being washed off by rainfall, watering, etc.; the wax also contains certain chemicals along with petroleum distillates. The pesticides and wax are FDA " certified food grade, " i.e., our government (us) has decided it's OK for us to eat this stuff. If you can't get organic/unwaxed apples, it's best to peel them before eating. Guest guest
Thanks for the information. I suspected as much but figured I got most of the residue. There is still mottley whitish splotches on the apples. We are growing our own but it takes awhile for the trees to mature enough to get a good crop. We have four apple trees 4 or 5 years old, Royal Gala and Snows. Guest guest
I agree Geoff, except i only eat red potatoes with skins. I think they are much better for you that white potatoes. I havent noticed any nightshade issues, i gave up potatoes and tomatoes for quiet a long time and didnt notice any effect adding back in red potatoes and a small amount of tomatoes used in cooking. Guest guest
Hi ! Geoff Crenshaw here. Re: rheumatic Digest Number 716 > I agree Geoff, except i only eat red potatoes with skins. I think they are > much better for you that white potatoes. I havent noticed any nightshade > issues, i gave up potatoes and tomatoes for quiet a long time and didnt > notice any effect adding back in red potatoes and a small amount of tomatoes > used in cooking. Me too. I've gotten so I can eat them to some extent. Interestingly, I found I have much more of an issue with garlic than with tomatoes. That is until I started readin the toxicology information from Cornell University that was sent to the list a few days ago. It mentioned fatigue and sleepiness after ingesting tomatoes and sure enough - that's me - especially with pizza! But then I also have to factor in the garlic/yeast/wheat thing so it would all be a big guess were it not for other instances confirming the relationship away from the other antagonists. Now I've been at this " food finding " thing for about 12 years now and am still " feeling my way " about - so it does take time, at least for me. As to the potatoes, I don't notice a difference unless I ingest them either in huge quantities or rotuinely over a period of several days - then I do. But I notice a difference with white baked potatoes right away. One big area the gets me specifically is Mc's french fries, but there it is not the potatoes per se that are antagonistic, but the grease. Mc's fries their FF's in BEEF GREASE as an adjunct to their burgers. Other companies use rapeseed oil (Canola), soy or corn oil, etc. I DO react to McD's ff's, but not particularly to others. When NOt taking the RA Spes, though, I do react more noticeably across the board, FWIW. Sometimes she will stop at the fridge for a drink lol. Her TV and VCR are in the master bedroom which has been her bedroom for the past two years. If I have to go out somewhere when she gets off the school bus she cries and carries on and doesn't want to get in the car. I promise her Mc " s and make sure I go there first. Once she sees the golden arches she calms down. She had a major meltdown and was crying this morning before school because she saw her VCR wasn't in her room.DH borrowed it to watch a movie last night.Dh got a big lecture about putting the VCR back when done or rent DVD's instead. I think most adults like to come home and relax in front of the TV so why should Kristy be any different. The problem is she could spend hours watching the same videos. It is hard to get her to do anything else.
Guest guest
Hi Diane, Boy do I know that tune. My son lives to watch videos and has since he was about 3yrs. old maybe earlier. The strange thing is he can pick out his favorite ones without them being in a box and it can be in a pile of ten or so. Like your daughter he can watch the same ones over and over again one of his favorites is " Babe " he just loves that pig! He is 7yrs. old and I feel so quilty about it cause he spends so much time there. My Mom and others will say he shouldn't sit infront of that t.v. so much but he loves it and he is entitled to his own quality of life. It seems what little speech that is emerging is due in part to them as he loves to singalong with the Bible videos for kids and the Disney ones as well. I have tried to teach him to color or play with stuff but he won't have it so I singalong with him and the videos and he couldn't be happier. He shows them his toys. Sometimes I have to go outside to my barn or walk my daughter who is 9yrs. old (best sissy) to the bus and I just put a video in and I know he'll be there infront of the set when I get back instead of into something dangerous. Well Diane just pray about the guilt part and God will handle it. Remember He gave her to you and He knows what he is doing! Hope this helped, (Lee's mom)
Guest guest
Thanks to those who responded to my note on docs in mpls area. I heard about Dr. McConnell last year, and was unable to get in to see her. Was told by receptionist that she was not taking any more " autistic patients " . Dr. Jyonuchi is an immunologist also at the U of M who just did a study regarding immunizations and autism. The results are showing a very high incidence of overreaction of the immune system to certain pathogens, immunizations being one of them. The reason I made an appt. with Dr. Orchard instead of her is that I got in much quicker, I already had a referral to him from last year that I didn't take advantage of, and Dr. Singh (at the conference in Iowa) has spoken with him and recommended him. I do plan on asking for the blood tests that Dr. Goldberg recommends. I actually gave the website to the nurse intake coordinator for Dr. Orchard to look at if he wants to before we see him so he isn't bombarded with all the info I'll be bringing him. I really hope he'll be receptive at least to the basic tests, and if not, we'll see Dr. Jyonuchi. We also bring Jakob to Dr. Sult in Paynesville (aGP)who I think would be open to ordering whatever I want, but I want to try Orchard first. I was thinking of making an appt. with Dr. Goldberg also-5 plus month waiting list! But it sounds like it is worth it from what everyone is saying. Carla H. Guest guest
The doctor you refer to in the following post is Harumi Jyonouchi. See link below. She is a researcher and clinician. I would not say that her protocol is the same as Dr. Goldbergs as I do not know enough about either, but my son was a participant in the study referred to below. We went to meet with her once. She is very open and knowlegable. Hirzel Ann Arbor, MI http://www.sundayherald.com/news/newsi.hts?section=News & story_id=14974 Message: 8 Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2001 11:45:06 EST From: liamcbuckley@... Subject: Re: new to this Hi Carla, I was at the conference as well. I met someone from MPLS who gave me the name of a Dr. that is somewhat paralleling what Dr. G is doing. (As I was informed) The woman's name is AJ and the Dr.'s name is Dr Gianucci? I am not sure of the spelling because I was verbally informed. I would check into her and actually let me know what you find out. I thought the conference was great!! I really do like Dr. Goldberg though and if you can see him, I would!! Good Luck! Guest guest
Hi Nina and everyone. I haven't checked in lately because things have been so busy. I have a problem I would like help with. I have a 10cc band and at surgery was 208 lbs in October of 2005. I had 2 fills bringing me to 166.4. I had not lost any weight in a month or so and went and had another fill 3 1-/2 weeks ago. The first few days after that fill was normal, liquids, mushies, then I wasn't able to keep any food down. A week later I was able to eat about 3 oz of steak and roast beef for dinner that nite! Since then (2 weeks ago) everything I eat comes back up. I have been on liquids since Sunday this week. While I know you are going to say I need a bit of an unfill, my question is why am I able to eat sometimes but most of the time I can't? I am down to 155.5 and I am taking vitamins and such to keep up. I don't feel bad (yet) just more tired than normal. Anyway, I would welcome any feedback as I am hesitant to take some out for fear of gaining weight back. On the other hand, I don't want to end up starving either. Thanks Stacey DOB 10/27/
Guest guest
Hi Stacey, Try to keep a journal on when you can eat and when you can't. Try to find a pattern. it is normal to be restricted in the morning and not be able to eat then, many people just have protein drinks in the morning. It is also normal to be able to eat more as the day progresses, unfortunately most people can eat more at dinner. There are some days that you are retainaing water and you can eat less, the band is tighter. What is more common is for something to irritate your band area , cause some PBing and then nothing else going down. You are doing the right thing, get the swelling down and try to see if you are overfilled or just not working with your band. Do not try to fight it, adapt to it. If a certain day you can eat very little do not fight it. The folllowing day might be normal again. The body changes and since the opening is so small you will detect the small changes.
