Hi All, The site:

http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-he-fast2dec02,0,1064695.story?coll

I thought was nice this morning.

My pick: Think a fast can give you license to feast?

For: CAPSULES New pyramid is built on disease prevention,

I attached the two important tables.

For:

SUPPLEMENTS,

I like best:

Research: There is a great deal of research underway on coenzyme Q10. So

far, the best evidence for its use is for congestive heart failure.

Cheers, A.

1Test for trend over quintiles of index scores with use of the median value

per quintile.

2Defined as CVD (n = 1092), cancer (n = 1661), or death (n = 366), whichever

came first.

3Adjusted for age (5-y categories), smoking (never, past, 1–14 cigarettes/d,

15–24 cigarettes/d, >25

cigarettes/d), time period, body mass index (quintiles), physical activity (6

categories of metabolic

equivalents), total energy intake (quintiles), and, in all except the cancer

models, history of hypertension or

hypercholesterolemia at baseline. The CVD models include vitamin E and

multivitamin supplement use for

RFS and vitamin E for AHEI.

4Defined as fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction or stroke or sudden

death.

5Defined as all cancers except nonmalignant skin cancers and nonaggressive

prostate cancers.
