A man after my own heart ;-) My diet has been dominated by fruit for many years - and the berries are the ones that have come with me most powerfully into CR. ISTM that they are king foodstuffs. There seems to be a general impression among CR enthusiasts that fruit tend to be sugar and calorie-laden questionable foodstuffs - but so far I'm not convinced. Well I suppose some worry about the fructose in them but I'm not sure that's an issue worth worrying about. However from having done one too many DWIDP analyses it seems fruits are not particularly nutrient rich. How much this matters of course depends on how few calories you are consuming. Berries though certainly well worth consuming for their antioxidents and phytochemicals are rather nutrient poor in terms of vitamins and minerals. The only non-nutrient poor berry seems to be strawberries. Apples are fairly nutrient poor but again probably have beneficial phytochemicals as well as fiber as do all fruits to some degree. Some say bananas are nutrient poor but they do contain B6 and some other nutrients. They seem fairly decent to me. Pineapple, though I love it, is quite nutrient poor - maganese is the only thing it contains in large quantities. What else do I eat - cantelope - that's probably not too bad ... Still I might try the eating more fruit suggestion for the simple reason that fruit is tasty, incredibly convenient, and healthy (even though not the absolute nutrient richest choice). And having food that fails in one of those categories (yes even and maybe especially the convenience one) has been my downfall before.
